You held against a young desperate child a one time mistake, and made her life miserable for 6 years, taking away her chance to evolve. If she'd been shown, with actions, that she had a place here, things could've been different. But instead, you just matched her desperate selfishness, with your petty selfishness. In my book, your whole family is a prime example of a disfonctioning unit. And I don't want to accept the "loss made them this way" excuse because I think you had bad bases, and the loss just revealed them. But let's pin that on the social context: noblesse oblige...

From my knowledge (French girly here) kisses on the mouth with non-romantic or sexual goals, are
a thing only a handful of people do. And even those don't kiss friends on the mouth but mostly close parents smothering the babies in innocent little smoochies (sometimes all over the face way to go overboard for cuteness)...
Hopefully this is not a really popular misconstrue anymore.... because "la bise" which is a cheek-to-cheek salutation _the so-called "kiss" between friends_ can't be mistaken for a real mouth-to-mouth kiss.

While poor families need to let their wives and children work to make a living, rich men could show of, by earning enough, so that there was no need for their wives and daughters to work.

Exactly this. Back then, a woman who can do more than look pretty and entertain men, was frowned upon. Especially if they're from a noble family.

I will here give you a few tiny tips on decision-making.
1)Use your eyes to perceive and your brain to see and THINK. When observing try: actually using your brain to process.
2)When you confront someone, learn to gauge their strength. That way you reduce your chances of overreacting.
3)When you want to make a decision, you need to gather information. While you started not too bad with asking a question, you should also know that a question is most useful in gathering information when you actually give time to answer. -Shocking! Right?
