He literally could use anything. From stick, orb to sword. He could even use human bodies as Shield.
Like others said, he can use literally anything. He practised swordsmanship from a young age in this life out of his own choice (I forget if it was like so for the whole family of his, or because he was the youngest son and thus had more freedom), but ended up going to this magic academy. His family is quite infamous and no one really knows what's true or fake when it comes to rumours, so people don't really know what to expect from him lol.
I highly recommend reading this! Idk what your stance on the sword usage is, but remember that the title is "Life of a Magic Academy Mage" - it's going to focus on magic for the most part.
