I get what you're trying to say, but me personally I take what I can get. As a seasoned bl reader (that sounds so fuckin cringe), there are very few good stories on here, most include pretty characters with trash plot, so I take what I can get, but there are good realistic ones like Until I meet my husband (based on a true story).
But if you want a better chance for realism, I recommend bara manga, because it's made for gay men, by gay men and not women.

It's not that I hate this story,, like you said, green flags are like little to non existent. So regardless, i thoroughly enjoyed that.
Until I meet my husband is so good pls I cry and I'm not saying that I expect that from every story :) Just that it didn't have to rush so much that it felt like a lot of unresolved feelings were just brushed under a rug. Dunno. Just a feeling of lost potential since the story line/genre is one of my favs
