Actual analysis:

From what im gathering, i dont think the story is saying he is mean but that his kindness isnt genuine and he only does that bc he wants to be seen as a good person in his moms eyes. And kindness is only genuine if its something you want to do not something you feel obliged to do bc you were told too.

Im sure this story plans on delving into how ingenine he is and how that has a negative effect on him and the others around him. How just doing what your told doesnt mean you have sound morals.

Ex. Him not fully turning the oFl down which lead to misunderstandings and seemingly lead her on. While its not his fault she reacted the way she did, he never fully turned her down bc he though he was being 'kind'.

I see this as the 'People pleaser effect' in an effort to make others happy by being 'kind' and doing what they want or avoiding it by lying, he is essentially hurting himself and the people around them like oFl. He uses his 'kindness' to manipulate people so that he can avoid their unhappiness. And if he cant do that he will lie to avoid it. Like what he did at the party where the oFl caused a scene. He lied to her abt going bc he didnt want to take her but didnt want to hurt her w/rejection, he assumed she would not go but she did he got caught.

Our now FL has those memories and sees that, she doesnt like it understandably but she isnt saying he is a bad person she just wants him to stop his Fakeness. Which I understand Like dont help me if you dont genuinely want to its a waste of mine and your time. And im sure she feels similar.

So his politeness isnt a problem but his kindness is a manipulation tactic (whether its intention or not is yet to be seen bc many people pleasers dont realize theyre being manipulative since theyre kinda raised that way).

His arc will probs end one or two ways, him slowly over coming his ppl pleasing behavior. Or him doubling down and completely pissing off our FL. We will see tho.

Yeah it is hhh, well, it's just funny to me cause I nearly don't eat, yet I still gain weight with the littlest of slips, and see usually im not bothered by it, I accept it, it's just life, life is fair and that's probably what I need right now, im very comfortable with myself, it's just that these past few years men have been insulting women every day calling them lazy and saying that they just sit and eat all day, have no discipline and whatnot, even though it is also proved scientifically that women gain fat easier and it's even preferred for us to have some weight on us, on a healthy scale, while for men it is very easy to spend calories and gain muscle, I do sports, I eat healthily mostly at home, drink only water, no sodas no nothing, I don't eat candy or chips, though I do like chocolate I still only eat like a small piece a day, while men who eat like pigs gain nearly nothing then dare to comment on women's bodies, knowing that many of us we have changing hormones and more other sicknesses and stuff like pcos and thyroiditis, with these you shouldn't even be dieting since all it would do is give you the opposite effect, anyway, sadly hearing their disgusting comments every day ended up messing with my mental health and really stressing me out, it almost made me think I was really bad or something, even when you're a good person, they manage to manipulate you into believing the worst in yourself, and now all I think about is how to dethrone those bastards, and torture them.

I feel you, in the novel there are like 13 chapters from lizards pov (thats Reese's nickname btw) and it was such a drag.
From now on Edith is happier because she has Killian and some other good people, soo that's good.
We are closer to the end, the ball with necklace drama is around chapter 80 and the novel without specials is 134 chapters, so we're getting there (⌒▽⌒)
It really good, worth waiting for, so I would say to stick with it and skip the lizard if necessary!
