i dont think its to the point of favoritism. father loves the brother too but he just doesnt show it, he cares abt him in a different way than how he cares abt mabel. father just pampers mabel more cz she's his youngest child (a daughter at that, typical family dynamic where parents spoils their youngest) and he just lost the love of his life (mabel's mom)

Then he became a forger of sword himself while also making a sword that work along with his power.
