The novel is INSANELY LONG, but honestly so fun, heart wrenchingly beautiful. When I first heard about it, it was labeled as a hot ghostly demon king falling in love with a beautiful god that collects trash, and that sounded so hilarious so I just had to read.
The story is SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. The donghua is beautiful, I absolutely love the art, you can tell STARember put all her effort in it- but if you want the full story, you need to check out the novel. You won’t regret it, it’s beautiful.

if you’re looking for rated sexual content, heavens blessing doesn’t have it, but it does have an amazing storyline, fun characters and a fierce sort of love and devotion that you’ll never find in any other danmei/donghua.
They do kiss a lot in the novel tho and there’s s lot of alluded kinky stuff in the extras lol but it’s still pretty innocent, which is still lovely.
If you like to check out something kinkier, the authors other stories are fun as well- I just read The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System, and it’s fun as fuck, and smutty toward the end. She also wrote Mo Dao Zu Shi (a very PG live action of it available on Netflix) which is awesome as well.

The author does pretty art but it’s so fucking DEMENTED if she thinks readers are gonna root for an asshole that killed an innocent man just to keep the guy he loves all to himself.

A dead man's switch is a switch that is designed to be activated if the human operator becomes incapacitated, such as through death/loss of consciousness-
The ML has scars that the MC said looked as if no human could survive it- especially the one around his neck, looked like he was nearly decapitated.
From the very first scene of them together, the ML seem to already know the MC, despite the MC can’t remembering a thing- it could just be a typical yaoi plot point, like the mc helping him out when he was younger/ he fell in love one-sided, been stalking him enough to know things, but the later scenes seem to imply the ML knew him intimately.
It also seems like it wasn’t the ML’s first rodeo- he’s competent as fuck with the axe, seem to be confident that some of the people they meet was going to die- we could chalk it up as him not caring about anyone else, but it’s also likely that he’s seen it happen.
He also said stuff like “usually it’s over before you get hurt” and “you’ve never gotten sick before” is this a mistranslation, or did ML just revealed that it all HAS happened before. There’s also moments when he sees the MC dead, saying that he looks so pretty even when dying. Maybe he’s fucked in the head, or it happened enough times.
He also kept mentioning how it doesn’t matter if everyone else dies, but mc shouldn’t. He’s smitten, in love, obsessed/ whatever you wanna call it with the MC, but it does feel like there’s more- he said that the mc “kept sacrificing himself for people” - early on, like why would he say that when the mc hasn’t done anything sacrificial yet? Maybe he did it previously, multiple times, and he kept coming back to life, with no memory of any of it. Hence dead man switch.
Maybe its like a time loop, a paradox of the MC & ML coming back to their zombie infested university with psycho killer students, like a fucked up video game-ish purgatory.
I could be wrong, and this is really just a zombie themed manhwa with an unhinged & sexy ML and clueless but kind hearted MC. Haha
EDIT: Also MC dreamed of the zombie thing happening, which became silly, picturing his zombie professor making him do a presentation lol- I forgot about this, but MC doesn’t seem like a video game type of person, so it’s likely he’s dreaming of stuff he HAD LIVED THROUGHHH

Unrelated but I love the MC’s relationships/friendships with others, it’s all so pure- little monster boy loves him like a hyung, this blue shark dude is such a gentle puppy, eyepatch dude + all the others are just so genuinely sweet to each other- a bunch of awkward gaming nerds eventho they were sucked into a game, none of them are even panicking, it’s kind of hilariously realistic tbh- like the game isn’t as intense as Last of Us or Silent hill, there’s danger but it’s mostly like the sims + multiplayer empire building sandbox type of RPG, and since all of them have spent hundreds of hours immersing themselves in the game, they’re just fully embracing it haha. Love that.
The MC and the grand duke’s relationship is more than just borderline abuse tho, I don’t like that, I wish there was an English trans of the novel so we fully understand their dynamic, cause right now it’s just giving asshole cold hearted seme and gentle naive uke

For those complaining on the differences story wise; I understand what you mean and I get it, I’d like more scenes depicting key moments too, but you can’t seriously expect them to draw & explain exactly what happens in so few chapters- the novels had THOUSANDS of pages, intricate and in depth explanations. It’s impossible.
Even so, STARember brings life to so many scenes, the level of detail to nearly each moment is cinematic.

Everyone was depicted well, EVEN swole hua cheng- y’all make it seem like she went off the rails with his depiction but I’ve read the novel TWICE and there was never a moment where his true form was described as thin and gangly OR swole. Literally it’s only :
“skin as white as snow” and that he was much taller than Xie Lian, that XL “has to stretch his neck in order to see him” the (SPOILER) coffin scene XL had described HC’s body as being large and hard, so all we know is he’s got a strong af body. Everything else is up to the reader to imagine.
Also Xie Lian was described as “handsome young, slender man who looks around 17 years old with dark, kind eyes” so wtf are y’all shaming his delicate features for?!!!
STARember didn’t “uke-ify” him, he’s literally known as the The Flower-Crowned Martial God; Sword in one hand, flower in the other. his beauty was as legendary as his sword skills, its a literal FACT.
Anyway the novel is up to your imaginations, I’m not discrediting any of y’all headcanons, but this STARembers depiction, (which the author fucking LOVED btw) and it’s beautiful, stop trying to gaslight people into thinking she didn’t do any justice to the characters when she absolutely did.

The story is a common trope, sure, but from the cover itself & the very first chapter you should’ve known whether it’ll be your cup of tea or not.
