You can send it through phone. Just change to desktop layout, and when you click on the photo of the person you want to send a message to, you will see their profile and their profile picture (big picture). Below the picture there is "Send mail", that's how you send private messages.
To me you just gotta enter the person's profile and go down until you find their profile picture bigger and under it there will be a send mail button
