At first I thought this was another episode of a typical "eccentric gf and horny mc who has no idea what's going on and is kinda a loser but whatever coz BOOBS", but I was happy to be found wrong. There is mad potential in this story, just from reading its first 15 chapters.

The beginning of the story leads you into a false sense of meta-familiarity. The chunibyo gf juxtaposed with the literally blank mc—Typical anime happenings. Though, as we come to find out through character expressions and suspenseful paneling, there is a dark undercurrent between these characters. Ame, being psychotic and clingy, and Itsuki, being an unresolved actor in Ume's past that too seems to have...Issues.

On itsuki, I'm wondering what is up with him? There are moments where he is physically disgusted by Ume's touch (the popcorn scene), but other times, he seems like he genuinely enjoys our mc's presence. That's why him roofing (idk) Ume's drink and trying to kiss him seemed narratively interesting. I clocked there was a home-erotic relationship when Itsuki blushed at the mc's thoughtfulness / kindness, but the perverse nature of his feelings really shocked me when he looked sexually stimulated when Ume vommed / panicked at the theatre. In the few memory flashbacks we eventually got of itsuki and Ume being revealed to have some sort of romantic relationship, we can tell that's not the full story, but why did he only remember the good times?

On Ame, she seems unstable and controlling. She's manipulating every new iteration of Ume to accept whatever life she wants to create for the both of them. It's possessive, and really gives this story a horror feel. As the story elaborates more on Ame in these next chapters, I'll probably have most my questions about her answered, so I digress.

On ume, why is bro around these crazy ass people?? I would've been on the first plane outta there once homegirl took out tha knife and started tweaking.

I really like this type of genre. Not where the MC is an adult in a child's body, but where the MC's story starts off as a kid and it's basically a story of their adventures as they interact with the adults around them in funny / heartwarming ways. I need more books like this. There's another one called Mori (?) that's similar in that it has an actual kid MC. This js so freaking adorbs, need more <3
