One would think it was Bum because he actually said it, but from the scene and the weird flashbacks I thought for a second that it actually Sangwoo? I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

    Mi Mi October 13, 2018 3:45 am

I think the “im serious, i love you” was from Sangwoo’s memory of his mom.

This guy really doesn’t know when to stop being a jerk

fireshootingstar September 28, 2018 4:49 pm

From the beginning, such a manipulative guy that looked so mischievous was honestly just not my type of guy and I didn't look forward to this series since it appeared he was the love interest, but now i'm kinda glad because it was really toxic and so.

My honest question is why often readers want the mc to end up in a toxic relationship with usually an abusive characters like Heejae simply because he’s attractive and says the magic words “ I love you”. It’s like yes it’s fiction so let’s encourage abusive relationships because it’s “hot” yes let’s normalize behavior like this as expressions of love like 50 shades of gray and Twilight have done for little girls and women. The whole thing boggles my mind and disgusts me how this genre often will take the most painful situation romanticize it wrap in a little bow and call it day all for entertainment’s sake.

When you are young, this kind of thing is usually more difficult to notice when reading something. THats because society has told us “rich and hot” guys are desirable, that he is controlative because he is jealous and “cares” about you, or that he should be forgiven because he did it out of love or so. When I was a teen, this kind of things made sense for me, it was what I watched on tv, it was what I read. I’m glad that this type of things are getting called out so we know it’s not okay to be in a relationship like that. And I think showing it in mangas it’s important so people see it as it is: toxic. It’s not healthy. And young ladies and guys should know that so that they won’t look for this in their romances. So I really hope this author won’t reconcile them like it’s totally okay because “they are in love”. I really hope she won’t

i'm in agreement with you there but honestly this sort of thing I believe is in fact not called out enough. I mean the defense is always that well this is fiction so it's alright to like this sort of thing. But fiction is not limited to the pages of a book or a computer screen in our case. It influences people and society, literally the reason why we had the book burnings of WWII in nazi germany or the erasure of the slave trade in the American south history books when the south lost. Literature has so much power. To use the excuse well it's just fiction is honestly the most ignorant and problematic thing I have ever heard and continue to hear in people's defense for the toxicity spreading in the yaoi genre and other entertainment mediums. It's not the question of teaching someone to replicate abuse or violence in their lives, but that rather given the circumstances and scenarios that it should be considered appealing and worth aspiring too. Just as you mentioned your own teenage experience. In fact the its main damage is that it normalizes and desensitizes people to things to a degree. This is really what the issue was even when people argued against violence in video games or the constant barrage of violence we view in media i.e war or school shootings. We get upset for a moment and then the next day is like any other day. There is need for a witch hunt to censor people's creativity, but to perpetuate negative and misleading aspects of reality for entertainment and create the narrative that a happily ever after is just around the corner if you too can suffer through emotional abuse, sexual abuse, or even both for the chance of love all it's worth it. What does that say about how people should value their self worth?

The other issue I have with narratives like this how we are told that we need to forgive abusers and that it's the victim fault because they can't get over their emotions caused by their abuse. A narrative that says the abuser is the victim is something that is literally the narrative we heard almost and every day in regards to rape survivors and their assailants. We don't to ruin that young boy's life afterall he made one mistake, can't you take into your heart to forgive him/her. You being raped isn't as bad as ruining his reputation or having him/her sent to jail. I SHOULD REALLY say "him" after all he's white, middle class, and Christian it will always come down in his favor at least in the USA. Elsewhere in the world they simply have to just be male and been otherwise "a respectable member of the community" who couldn't have possibly of done such a thing. While we might not have the extreme case played out in this manga, the author is seemingly relying on us to forgive Heejae because of a psychosis he's fully aware of his wrong doings but hey at least he's sorry that should count for something right? What utter trash. If they end up together after all of this you've really failed in an opportunity in changing the status quo. And for those who say well I enjoy stories like this, why are you insulting my kink/fetish, if your fetish is seeing others treated as a second class citizen because society has shown us women/ minorities don't matter and seeing the same scenario play out for a fictional gay characters and you'll still can't empathize you are standing in the way of ever changing the minds of the patriarchal world we live in.

Oh I completely agree with you. Like in this specific manhwa, I don't want Heejae to be forgiven. I think current yaoi romanticizes relationships that are based on superiority from one person to the other, one sided pleasure, rape, abuse, and any other things fandoms are accepting because its "fiction". Causing pain to people just because someone hurt you is not an acceptable excuse, so when I see people reading BJ Alex and saying "oh he is so cool" im like wtf. Or people reading killing stalking and saying oh relationship goals, for real. I think its good to show it, not romanticize it, not making it look ideal, to show it as the disgusting thing it is: abusive.
