It was a political move where she presented an option where he could only choose to yield power to her or risk looking really bad in the public eye. Either way his seat of power is weakened and he was backed into that corner.
Targeting him more directly could lead to an actual war because he is the king? That's not a situation she wants her or her family to be in, especially not when it was caused by a power struggle for a throne she willing forfeited and didn't even want.
