Confusion, looking for acceptance, etc. Oftentimes MCs are grown adult so there is more emphasis on story and jobs you don't find in other mangas. If you never read yaoi before I'd like to recommend you Hana wa Saku ka, try to read and you'll see what i mean :)
Cause in those manga the girls are less likely to be sexualized, be simple damsels in distress, or just being annoying. I'm girl. I support feminism. It's not that I hate girls, I just hate how they are written in most stories. Yaoi and BL let me see love in diffrent view where I don't feel like I'm the girl being wooed. Because there are no girls there. I still read straight romance that is written well like remarried empress
