So I'm reading these BL's and I'm wondering how old are ya'll? I'm 17 and I'm wondering what are the age range's of people reading these BL's? I started reading yaoi when I was 12/13 so that making me more curious.

Hello, nice to meet you :D I know the feeling, I've heard it many times as well, I couldn't care less though, as people always talk shit about stuff they don't understand. They should also mind their own business tbh!
Agreed it is lonely to not have people sharing this interest with, let's be friends (●'◡'●)ノ

That depends on what you like? I'll give you some of my favourites from different genres.
I do prefer ones with plot and not just smut, though You're my Loveprize in Viewfinder is still my favourite, although there's quite a lot of non-con in it as well. It's yakuza seme x photographer uke. Lots of action, but also a ton of smut and it's still ongoing. They're at volume 12 now.
I do love Eigyou Nika! which is a super cute and fun love story, read it about 10+ times.
Neon Sign Amber and Doushitemo Furetakunai have real life plots, which make them very good, they're also emotional but with happy endings :)
Another one is Harapeko Usagi to Koisuru Ookami, which is a bit different, but a cute love story as well. Successful businessman seme x broke student uke, it's not one of those Cinderella stories though. The uke wants to be independent and not rely on others.
If you like animal attributes I'd recommend Musebinake, Junjou which has action and some plot-twists you don't see coming! Sekai wa Shippo de Dekiteiru is wolf seme x human uke, which also revolves around a kid. It's a soft and pure story.
If you like yaoi with kids Danshi Koukouseiteki Kazoku Keikaku is a very good one! It's super cute with a baby that you just want to squish haha.
From the Highschool ones I'd say Asatte ni Kiss: a former otaku turns into a popular guy in his new school and falls for the "delinquent" while hiding he's an otaku. It's funny and the uke starts to love himself the way he is.
Omae wa Hitsuji. plays at university and it's student x professor, with smut and romance. It's also one of my favs.
For smut I'd recommend our House Love Trouble which does have lots of smut but also character development and some romance. Fushidara na Hanatsumi Otoko is a bit longer and has a plot but also lots of sexy smut ;)
For Shounen-Ai I'd go for Seven Days, it's a really beautiful manga and you don't miss the smut at all. Great story and characters!
Sorry that I didn't recommend soft porn yaoi, but it's too superficial for me, I like seeing a relationship develop between the characters develop. I also don't like toxic relationships or psychological manipulation. Drama is fine for me as long as it's a decent amount and not too much angst.
That's it for now, sorry it got so long haha. Let me know if you'd like to know anything else (●'◡'●)ノ

Ummmm for some reason my whole comment isn’t showing but I’ll say it again thank you so much for the recommendations!! I wasn’t expecting you to write so much. I was vague for what I was asking on purpose because I didn’t want to narrow down the options. Out of all the ones you recommended (which I have already added to my list) I’ve read two: Viewfinder and Asatte ni Kiss. I was young when I read Viewfinder and I didn’t understand it much so I’m going to reread it again, and Asatte ni Kiss was sooo adorable

Hey I'm glad to hear I could be of help :) If you ever need more recommendations let me know. I've read so many and wrote the majority of my favs down! Viewfinder is good but with non-con and sometimes it can be quite brutal but I like it. Although I think they should finish the manga already, as I believe the mains should finally be happy together now, coz they really deserve it.
I'm sorry your replies disappeared or got cut off, so annoying omg!! Asatte ni Kiss is very adorable hehe. Have a good day (▰˘◡˘▰)

I got a question for my fellow BL readers. Are you out and proud about reading yaoi would you tell others that you read Yaoi/BL/shounen ai?(cause me personally idgaf imma tell anybody if they ask what I like to read nor will I hide it either)

it’s not fetishization. that idea came from a sexist and misogynistic japanese site to shame women for having different interests on other things. the word ‘fujoshi’ has a bad connotation in it but it’s been reclaimed. i think it means undesirable women or something. there’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying bl, it is normal for a non-lesbian woman to feel pleasure looking at two men having sex since they are attracted to that gender. non-gay men watch lesbian sex all the time, are they shamed for it?

(accidently pressed ‘post so here’s the continuation. sorry im an idiot.) however, when a woman enjoys bl but does not support irl mlm relationships, there’s a problem there. or women who harass irl mlm couples or romantically ship real people of the same gender (regardless of their sexual orientation). we shouldn’t stop using the word fetishization so loosely especially when it does not do any good for the LGBTQ+ or the allies who just enjoy bl/gl. if we gatekeep stories just because of the genders of the couple, we are not helping in normalizing and de-stigmatizing same-gender relationships. this is coming from a queer woman who enjoy both bl and gl. have a nice day.
p.s.: i am not attacking you or anything. sorry if it came off that way.

I agree with some of what ur saying,, but I never said women shouldn’t read BL I said YAOI. It would literally be erasing much needed lgbt representation if only gay men could read bl (which is just romance) so I don’t want that HAHA. I’m saying “fetishization” bc women who read yaoi (which is the sex part of “BL”) is literally using gay men for their own sexual pleasure isn’t it? I can’t think of any reason women would read yaoi if it wasn’t for the same reason men watch lesbian porn which is NOT okay either. Because that is also fetishizing lesbians. And I’m not using that term loosely at all lmao. have a good day 2

Bl yaoi and shounen ai are three different things bro bl is the umbrella term for “boys love” yaoi is homoEROTIC relationships between men (so the sex part) and shounen ai is just romance. The only thing I’m saying is fetishization is yaoi bc if ur not a gay guy then why would u be getting turned on by 2 gays f*cking ?? That IS wrong and IS fetishization. Same thing with guys getting off to lesbian porn. Gross.

it doesn't effect you though. Mind your business who are you to tell people what they should and shouldn't read. People are gonna be turned on to whatever there gonna be turned on to and thats okay. Yaoi is hot and that obvious these are drawings as long as mf's are respectful to irl lgbt ppl then its a-okay. Yaoi was invented by women for women you know. Your basically telling us not to use what we invented.

hi. it seems that you have mistaken what yaoi and bl is. bl is not just about romance, bl is about a story of an mlm relationship, regardless if there is sex or not. the term yaoi literally means ‘no plot, no climax, no meaning’, basically porn. but people always mix yaoi up with bl and think they’re the same thing. there are also people who think that bl is just all about romance, which is not the case.
enforcing just the romance side of bl is not healthy either, it makes mlm sex taboo (which it already is). it also feels very bootlicking; satisfying homophobic people who feel disgusted seeing make-out and sex scenes of two men even though it’s a normal thing to do. i live in Southeast Asia and there are a ton of conservative people here. even seeing a man kiss another man on the cheek, hand, or lips (i think it’s called a peck idk) will send them into a meltdown lol. i do agree that mlm sex should not be glorified but it should be normalized.
i also think that wlw relationships are very fetishized. bisexual women are desired by men just for being bisexual and that’s wrong. however, watching homosexual porn because it turns you on is fine as long as you don’t treat same-gender relationships all about sex, as long as you don’t glorify and (especially) harass same-gender couples (ex. asking who’s the top or the bottom without even confirming if they’re comfortable talking about sex-related topics). irl ships are also major problem but that’s a topic for another day. there are a ton of wrong things people do but if a person has the capability of not glorifying a heterosexual relationship, they can also do that on same-gender relationships.
what we need to do is educate people about these types of topics, not police them on what they can and can’t read/watch because most of the time, that does not work. of course, there’s always going to be people who will fetishize same-gender sexual intercourse and relationship regardless of whatever you say to them but we shouldn’t censor it to everyone just because of them.
i will not deny that there are a lot of women who fetishize mlm relationships and frustratingly glamorize r*pe culture in BLs (this is an entirely different topic but it’s just as frustrating) but there are also a lot of women who read BL that are allies or even part of the LGBTQ+. when we have discussions like what we’re doing, we can educate those who are misguided because they’re new to these kinds of topics and misguided people bc of BL materials that are misleading and harmful.
anyways, that’s it. im so sorry it’s long, im not good at conveying my opinions (esp since English is not my first language). hope you are having a nice day and my reply didn’t ruin it lol.

No no, I totally 100% agree with what you’re saying lol. I think you mistook what I was saying maybe ?? I know yaoi is just sex, that’s why I was saying it wasn’t right to glorify it etc. and BL stands for “boys love” so I don’t think it makes sense to say it’s not all romance..? Since that’s kinda the point? But I know what you mean, BL should portray the realistic sides of irl mlm relationships so it doesn’t get fetishized or glorified

i dont really care about being a fujoshi (and my man even supports me!!) but of course we must have our limits, especially when it comes to the fetishizing of real mlm/wlw people,,,it kinda irks and annoys me especially when a couple posts a pic of them then people asks who is the top or bottom, like comrade, have some respect pls (just sharing my thoughts :DD)

I kinda am but not too much cuz my mom is like 25-30% homophobic and already thinks I'm gay cuz I had a fan art of Gon and Killua while they were at the beach (which makes no sense) bc she thinks that boy on boy stuff makes me like girls...anyways I don't want my mom to find out that I read yaoi bc she thinks I'm fetisizing gay stuff or "surrounding my life with gay" -_- so I'm careful abt who I share it with
In the begging of the story I hated Yuri but I'm now I'm living for his character ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
YES
Yes yuri character is not some typical young seme he is also a person with shitty personality just like us and yes he is also feeling lonely in his life!
Are you criminals too?
Nooo I mean it in like he got irritating faces and his thoughts at some point , I mean it in tht sense and how come yuri is criminal ?
Really now...Sexual. psychological and physical assault are crimes in 100% of the free world.
Okay let's not take it tooo real world I only mean it in the behaviour sense not the way he does things it's up to person and don't give me real world logics like this I m also an adult
I low key live for the shitty personality. He isn't this perfect seme.
Yep, but by BL/Yaoi/Shounen ai logic it isn't. That's why this fictional logic shouldn't even touch real life.
It's ok (and necessary to separate both in a sense) but not to idealise... I love the story a lot, but the comment refered to someone saying Yuri "is like us" so... I read yaoi since the trash days(29 years into this), I'm a middle aged woman if I could set them apart oh goddess.
couldn't*
Oml the trash years I remember looking at some of the oldies and I'm just shook by it. are the trash years like 2006 or around that?
Before that hahaha more like 90's
YIKES I JUST SAW IT
Yikes indeed
