I think the prince wanted to awaken to take position of power as a form of revenge. Taking away the Crown Prince position. And then eventually murder his father and ex crown Prince bully brother.

He can’t take revenge if he escape the imperial palace unless he manage to plan a coup d'état which is not possible unless he has some sorts of imperial power and no one wants to follow a “unawakened” person to be a leader.

I just looked at our society and was like "ok next time try to aim for older than me not younger!" >_> Plus there are people with 10-40 year age gaps getting married in our society that I just am numb to it unless the person is younger than legal age.
