This story is just like mine. The difference is that I never became friends again with the boy I liked. I found his facebook not too long ago, but he probably didn't recognized me because I am no longer a girl like we first met. I was afraid that he wouldn't accept my friend invitation just because now I am also a boy. And he didn't. I still like him, even after 4 years but I carry on like this. Maybe we will meet again sometime.

I agree. The feelings we're experiencing at the last part of the story would be very different if the mangaka chose to make a complete story with a happily ever after. This is the anticipation of first true love which the protagonist is going through which the author wants us to feel as well. We're expected to feel the anticipation and thrill of new unknown emotions like Uchida. If this were a close-ended story then we would be simply satisfied with their union and perhaps there would be no mystery? Well, that's how I see it.
