I get a feeling that the grandma is the one that abandoned Giovanni and not his mother or at that time his mother might don't have any clue about what happened to him. . I really hope Giovanni agree to receive the treatment even though I understand his worries....

    I think that the grandmother actually kidnapped Gio and abandoned him and told the mother that he had an accident and died somehow.
