New guy enters.
Me: "Ooooh I had a feeling the guy he looks up to would turn up and be a sexpot!"
R & D guy: "Hi dad."
Me: "Well damn it, nothing's happening there then I guess."
Uploader meme at the end, about new hottie: "Stay back slut!"
Me, whispering from the back of the room: "...But but he's delicious, don't be mad"
"It was drawn in the hope that there will be more bottoms like this in the future" (talking about these stories' "top-like bottoms" which I guess is an accurate way to describe them re: yaoi conventions) -- YES PLEASE I feel that in my soul, sensei, and your hope is mine too. More and better diversity in BL - in various ways - before everyone's brains atrophy, please.
I love fuck buddy relationships that are portrayed without disrespect or judgement, like Shun's with Saoji! Ichinose was prim and judgey about it, but that was probably because he already unconsciously liked Shun. The mangaka wasn't being judgemental or critical with the way they're presented in the story, is what I mean.
Of course it wasn't going to be endgame and wasn't going to last, that wasn't the point of them at all. But I really like it when the casual relationship is totally healthy, honest and equal, and the fuck buddy is a good person. I hope Saoji gets a spin-off! Or that at least we see him with a love of his own (m or f, since he's bi) briefly at the end of the story or in an extra.
Is it a Japanese cultural thing that so many manga seem to portray a marriage breakup as child abandonment?? Do they not understand that even if a marriage ends, the kids can still have a great relationship with the parent they don't primarily live with? Or is it just for the sake of drama and plot that they do it this way? Not all manga are like this, but most are, so I'm wondering.
It really pisses me off, to be honest. Why should people stay in a marriage that isn't working? It's such an old-fashioned way of thinking. It's not good for the couple OR their kids in the long run. If the parents are both normal people (they don't have to be unnaturally good, just NORMAL parents who love their kids) there's no reason to think they're "abandoning" their child if they leave a marriage that doesn't work.
This is a massive peeve of mine, if anyone couldn't tell!
In fact... it is a hot topic ...as in Japan only one parent has legal guardianship after a divorce...the other one becomes a stranger... of course if the parents wish for it they can find an amiable solution and arrange something but legally there is no obligation and it’s still an exception... and it leads to situation like kidnapping by one of the parent etc.. and the other one has little to no rights... it is even worse if one of the parent is not Japanese... there are a lot of stories you can read online about Non Japanese parent fighting for Japan to respect their rights to see their children after a divorce and even cases when they are arrested because they tried to see their child after the Japanese parent took the kid away... they can even be refused to enter the country ...
Interesting, thanks for the info! I had heard/read that about child custody laws in Japan, but I wasn't aware of all the issues it is causing. It's awful that the law is so backwards, I feel so sorry for parents who are prevented from being in their childrens' lives.
Purely for this manga, that almost makes it worse, though, that the mum is getting attacked for not being with her daughter. Let's face it, "Sensei" would have been a shitty useless husband. Seems like he sat back and had her do everything because he's "bad at it" - and when she left, he didn't even try to improve himself, he just replaced her with his ex-student! He sucks. Who would want to be married to him?? But if he was the main income-earner (since Japan is also... behind the times... when it comes to married women with kids working), he might have been the 'better' choice for custody.
Before we all go full girl-bashing on the new co-star... my prediction is that she's totally innocent in all this and she's in a committed relationship of her own. I sorta suspect that the TV network is pushing the story about Waki and Ukie, because they were afraid of any fallout from Waki's onscreen confession.
Her being a potential rival or at least pushy is definitely the impression we're supposed to be getting. But to be fair we only know of the one occasion where she's been the one to ask him to have dinner - and it's not like she pushed when he immediately said no. The time from the news article could have been a work thing with other colleagues there. Apart from that, I feel like they've just been working late every night, not going out to eat together.
I smell yaoi misunderstandings! But I guess time will tell haha.
I agree its 2 early to go bashing. Im really hoping they dont turn her into a typical nasty yaoi girl thats trying to get in the way. Hope shes perfectly normal. We'll just have to see and find out altho her posting the picture without permission on instagram is a big no no. Hopefully thats the worse it gets
Yay, volume 2!!! This may be the first time I've clicked fully expecting it to be a false update/wrong manga, and been happily surprised!
I like the feeling I get from Tada-kun now compared to earlier in Vol. 1. He seems way more like he does actually care about Kami and gets mad on his behalf, but is kinda bratty about showing it or being called on it. To an acceptable degree, that is - last volume he was too much of a dick about it.
Yay drama drama action plot! ...But why is Akihito aging backwards?
