Ooohhh that's a nice detail to the story. I questioned their style of drawing the ears also but thought maybe the author just wanted a new style of ears and make the ML unique, turns out it's because of his profession.
Yes, she did good with that detail. You can't have a professional MMA fighter without cauliflower ears.
