look, I'm pretty casual about pointy weapons, but having played games with sword based combat for so long let me point out that there's no way a person using a dirk could ever successfully parry a direct blow from a longsword, not even when the weilder of the dirk has greater upperbody strength than the sword weilder, which is highly unlikely to be the case here, since there's not way the red haired creep could have more strength than Cedric who can even swing his longsword with one hand comfortably.
