From what I remember, it was cause he was mad that THE MC’S MOTHER CHOSE TO PROTECT THE MC OVER HIM. Like, what the actual fuck is wrong with that asshole. I still can’t believe he was the ml. Honestly, he ruined like 2 lives(the mc and the transmigrated girl(I don’t like her but I so sympathize with her situation. I feel like he is the LAST person that should get a happy ending in this shit show.

In order to enjoy this I had to think of past blue haired and current blue hair as two different people.

Yeah I don’t think I could ever. Like, even the reincarnated girl’s life was ruined cause of him. Like, she’s def the bad guy now, but she was literally kidnapped from her previous world and dumped into a new one. The only person she had on her side to rely on was the blue haired guy so of course she was going to cling onto him. She was suddenly in a position she was never trained for, and she’s literally just a naive girl from Korea. Even after mc died, he kept comparing her to the mc, even though HE was the one that called for her death. Like, she’s also an ass, but considering her situation, understandable. And, of course she’s gonna end up even more crazy than in the first life. Like, the blue haired guy caused all his problems in his first life and I dislike that he gets a happy life in his second just cause he shed some tears. I can get forgiving him so mc can move on with her life, but getting back together with him?? No way.

And that’s also why I never enjoyed this. I read this near the beginning of its release and when the spoilers came out I dropped it as fast as I could.

Not to mention, his current life would’ve literally repeated the same thing if mc hadn’t changed herself. I like redemption stories, but not when he’s an irredeemable asshole that ruined the lives of two girls. I feel like the other girl should’ve been the one that had a happier ending, and ml should’ve had the worst ending. Cause, you can understand what happened to the transmigrated girl, but not with the ml. Like, boohoo your mom doesn’t love you as much as mc‘s mom loves mc. That doesn’t give him the right to fuck with two people’s lives cause of his stupid inferiority complex. Mc was literally tortured by him all of her past life, while also losing the people she loved. And the other other transmigrated girl literally lost all of her loved ones and her previous world. Like, those two cannot compare with what he went through as a child. Like, those two have every reason to be traumatized and stuff, he barely has any ground to stand on.

Like, if the adults treated him like shit, why is he projecting his anger on the mc. Like, i can get it if he was still a child, but he legit is a grown adult and still holding onto petty misplaced anger and ruining someone’s life cause of it. It’s also the worst execution of the “oh when mc died he realized he loved her” trope. Like, it just further cements how fucking dumb and irredeemable he is.

Maybe if they hadn’t lingered on their past life, it would’ve been more digestible, but it was like chapters of him just torturing her and the author seriously expects me to forget that when he sheds some tears?

He still had the capabilities and mindset to do the same thing he did in his last life to her. If not for mc remembering what happened in the last life, he would’ve still been the same irredeemable asshole.

I’ve read stories where the mc ends up with the guy that sucks in the first life or in the first part of the story (I’ve literally read ‘there were times I wished you were dead’) but, they at least made his actions make sense from his perspective, and not like the actions of a child who doesn’t realize how much power he holds, so he ruins everyone’s lives.

Well said. I couldn't agree with you more. I really tried to read this. I put it down for a good while, giving myself the time to let it stew and get in the right mind set, but I can't do it. I've read a yaoi that had a similar troupe, but the seme started off terrible, but he changed, he actually hated himself when he found out what he'd done, and he cherished the uke, but this...you are so right, the changes came from the fl, not the ml. If it came from him, then I'd have loved to read it and see the changes he made, but I just can't. Heck, I'd I have loved it if he were the one who went back in time so he knew the damage he did and the hurt he caused both the reincarnated girl and the fl.

Honestly, like I would be more lenient if he had a good reason or his mind was being messed with or ANYTHING. BUT all we get is him being a whiny little kid.

Cause fl was the daughter of his enemy and she hid a lot of things from him, but even then, he was still falling for her and goes through the angst of that happening. The main evil was the fl’s dad, who caused the whole bad situation in the first place. MEANWHILE, the god of the abandoned empress role definitely was the reason the situation happened, but it was ml THAT CAUSED THE SITUATION TO TURN OUT SO BAD. LIKE WTF. Right?! I don't get it. I skimmed through and she had other options after she was reincarnated, why pick him? and As you wrote, it doesn't make sense for him to be that terrible to her. I'm writing a book myself, and I just can't see why the author would use such a weak excuse for what a lead character does. I'm actually surprised it still has such a high rating. It wasn't just one thing, it was the rape, the abuse, the other woman, the disrespect, the killing of the father, and I believe bringing her household down, and all this because he has issues because he wasn't loved? In life sometimes things are so absurd, you can't believe why people do what they do, but this is a story, everything has to have a justification and sometimes none is given, but you can't just expect readers to accept the ml because she went back in time and she made changes. I've read many a novel with plots where the ml is insufferable but you know there will be a pay off because there is a reason why, but this is terrible.
I'll check out 'there were times I wished you were dead' Maybe it will erase this bitter feeling when I think of this story.

Lol I wouldn’t put my money on it. As much as I talked about “there were times I wished you were dead”, a lot of people were annoyed by that manhwa. They don’t resolve their misunderstandings until like chapter 170 something and there’s a lot of angst. ML makes a lot of dumb decisions and I’m one of the few that’s pretty lenient when it comes to shitty mls(which says a lot about abandoned empress if even I can’t defend it) so I could still read it lol. He definitely had his reasons, which is 10 times better than this shitty ml. However, you still feel super bad for fl, and you want to smack the ml sometimes lol

I just used it as an example since that manhwa covers like the bare minimum of having a redeemable shitty ml.

For recommendations where ml is shitty at first but then becomes better, I recently read a manhwa called “I thought it was a common isekai story”

It’s still in the beginning chapters but based off the novel spoilers, he becomes a LOT better and his reason for treating her shitty at first actually makes sense.(but that’s spoilers so I won’t say anything unless given permission lol)

Also I think this story still has a high rating because people rated it high when it first came out cause it had good art and was one of the first reincarnation manhwas(before the market got so saturated lol). Some people forgot about it probably and never read till the end.

Also, I remember reading it when it first came out and I was shipping her with the green haired guy. But then I learned about the spoiler and I was like what????? But she had a much better option?!!! And then I learned THE AUTHOR TURNED HIM INTO A PSYCHO YANDERE CHARACTER. LIKE WTF. YOU CANT MAKE ANY REDEEMABLE QUALITIES FOR YOUR ML SO YOU JUST TRASH THE CHARACTER OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES????

I checked out 'there were times I wished you were dead' I liked it. These stories have nothing on harlequin asshole male leads, billionaire/million Greek/Italian tycoon vs poor, destitute maid/restaurant worker who get's pregnant and needs money. I'll check out the other one as well.
I'm guessing they liked the green character but wanted end game to be the ml so any reason would do. I myself find that, it's easier if you go with the changes to a story even if it was fleshed out differently. Then again, what do I know? I'm still working on my first book lol.

Nah, you're good. And of course if a story is character driven, what sense would it make for the main characters to be their best self right off the bat? That's the point of these kinds of stories, for the them to grow as the plot moves along.
