The author calls her art "gross" but I think it's pretty. I like the way she draws her eyes and hair. Or maybe it's just me?
I was just thinking about that- the art style is deceptively simple, maybe- not a lot of fancy shading, tones, backgrounds, etc... but I especially like the expressions. I feel like there is a lot of emotional vulnerability and subtle nuances in the characters' posture, too, that perhaps stand out more the way it is than if there was a team of helpers adding heaps of extra details. I think it seems very honest and appealing, even when the cast are having unhappy moments.
After all these chapters, I still don't understand how chapter one ties into it. Perhaps chapter one is after this current flashback? Like, an upcoming chapter? Does anyone know?
It would make sense since Jesse would probably be angry at Law for doing all that to him. He's possessive and controlling in the first place, and kind of fucked up. And what Law did to him left him submissive and kind of stuck in a corner. He'd probably be pissed - and want revenge, of course. *Plus, I will slide in that they look a lot older there. I don't know if it's the different art style, but they look very mature.
And now I'd like to point out that Law says "For you...If I had the least bit of empathy from the start I wouldn't have created the you now." I don't know if this is perhaps a time before the most recent time Law erased Jesse's memories (he mentioned somewhere that he'd done it before) but it just sounds like Endgame talk to me.
A line that doesn't make sense to me is when Jesse thinks "I can't die and it's not like I wanted to throw the pain back to him." My analyzation is that perhaps this is a simulation? Not real? Don't get that part, someone let me know if you do. But then Jesse asks, "This is real, right?" What the fuck. Is it real or now? He could die if it was real.
Then Law says, "For a correct guess I shall give you a reward." A guess? What is he supposed to guess? Law didn't even ask anything. Perhaps this is hinting to when Law erases his memories and Law is mocking him saying, 'If you guess that I did it again, I'm giving you a reward.' I don't understand this either.
And um, he calls Law Caise? Was that a trick Law played, or is his actual name Caise? Did Law tell him in a time in which he erased his memory that his name was Caise? Or is this Endgame and Law's actual name is Caise, and Law kills him because he, um, remembers the real truth.
I don't fucking know shit now. I was about to reread the whole manga but than I realized I still don't understand anything. Fuck. ( ̄へ ̄)
I also wondered for a while about the name Caise but I´m guessing thats just what the translators wrote and then changed it to Jesse later? Jesse says "this is real right?" and that was the "guess" law was after. Jesse realized that they are not in Moritat anymore, thats why Law says "Surprised?" But then why does Jesse say that he cant die? That would only make sense if they were still in Moritat. thats the confusing part. Personally I´m guessing that chapter1 happens after Jesse wakes up from Moritat because Jesse has had many memories coming back to him during his sleep but he´s never dreamed about this flashback. I´ve reread chapter 1 many many times but i ALWAYS hate it because Law is just so cruel there ┗( T﹏T )┛
So at the beginning Jesse was being put through Moritat. And the purpose of it, from Law's point of view, was two get Jesse to understand how Law feels about him to a certain extent. Law was using some of his emotions to manipulate Jesse, and so here's where we see the beginning of that and also the beginning of Jesse's distrust for Law... at the end of the day, Law wants Jesse to trust and love him so that he could control him... And so the purpose putting Jesse through the Moritat was to make himself seem as a servant and as honest and trustworthy... I think at the point that the story begins Jesse understands that Law is a manipulator... But I don't think he knew or understood the full extent... Think about it this way... look at the themes in the beginning and see how consistent they actually are... Jesse in Moritat is completely dependent on Law for every single thing... He's dependent on the presence of Law to take care of him, to look after him, to give him some sense of emotional stability... it is exactly what Law wants and consistently what Law has expressed that he wants, to us the audience, even in the flashbacks... and so I would actually suggest you read back through it from the standpoint of Law is a master manipulator and the only thing he is interested in, is having full and complete control over Jesse. I will say that Law does seem to have some love for Jesse, but for the most part it just seems like he wants control... which considering his shitty parents... it make sense
You're not paying enough attention. In the begging, the translators warned us that they mixed the translation of names so Law = Caise.
Don't dish it out if you can't take it.
