Is it me or there's more and more really bad translation being posted these last few months.
I've been rereading some old manhwa (from before 2023) and the translation wasn't always perfect but it was readable, but now when you want to read a manhwa you have those horrid translation with Google text or just gibberish (i read Just twilight today and let me tell you that you have to be strong to read from chapter like 30 to the last update because translation is going crazy and nonsensical). It takes all the pleasure of reading stories.
Reading is my escape from reality and even tho I try to read on official website or app it can get pricey (and I'm not a millionaire) or just not available in my country yet I still come here to discover and read stories.
Sorry for the rant
for years now i've noticed every time anyone remotely mentions translations quality going down, you're gonna be met with a bunch of follow up yappers going "yoUr'e so EntiTled. bE grAteFUL FoR tHis. it'S bEttER thAn NotTHinG. ThEy'RE dOinG tHEiR BeSt". the lack of pushback against trash translations is exactly why it continues to worsen. because think about it, if you posted a half-assed translation and you're met with praise, would you continue to do half-assed translations? of course you would lol. no point in putting effort if zero effort is all it takes.
I've seen those comments saying that it's better than nothing. There are even some comments defending those awful translation over the officials or the translation of really nice groups these days (especially for the officials being posted after, some people find it annoying even tho I'd rather wait months and have a good translation than read some weird and inaccurate ones)
I translated a few chapters of little mushroom before the original translation team came back, and honestly I appreciated the criticism because first of all, I spoke the language but I wasn't the best at it, so telling people their translations could improve is a good thing. It can help some translators do better, that is if they are willing to. If they just slap on some bullshit ass google translations and call it a day there's really no point in telling them "oh this is good" or lie about that stuff, if it sucks it sucks.
I was reading an omega x alpha story and I realized that the question of periods never comes up in these stories. It would be logical that omegas should have period since they are ovulating but I've never read an omega story that talks about it
Also do alpha females still have periods when they are the one fertilizing the eggs ? Can an alpha female make a baby by herself ? Same for an omega male ?
I have so many questions, so little answer
I don't read a lot of omegas world type of stories but I've still read a few and I don't remember any of those questions ever being mentioned or answered
sometimes it's better not to know....jk it really depends on the author, some make female alpha have a penis so no uterus no vagina no menstrual period, some make them have vagina still but can impregnate omega but not get pregnant, some have vagina can get pregnant can't impregnate and the only alpha trait they have is strong pheromones that make omega weak. also this is not even including dominant/recessive traits.
sometimes the author will explain how things work throughout the work and sometimes they expect you to understand (you see female alpha with a penis, you understand you don't have uterus so no pregnancy no period)
1) omegaverse follows estrous cycles (i.e., heats), which are different from menstruation cycles (i.e, periods). in real life for example, dogs and cats have estrous cycles, whereas humans and elephant shrews have menstruation cycles.
so there's a logical reason behind no periods being mentioned in omegaverse
2) some stories feature a character having male and female parents who are both alpha, so yes i'd think that an alpha female can still bear children even if they are also capable of fertilising eggs. but this depends on the author
3) this is just my guess, but alpha females and omega males probably don't have the anatomy/fertile cells/right variety of chromosomes to create viable offspring by themselves
That makes more sense when you put it that way, thanks
I still think authors should make it a little bit clearer because it just make the stories really messy
