So she pretends to be paula to try and get with the Vincent. Also poor violet… after breaking off her engagement with Vincent, she marries someone else, but gets widowed with a child. Ethan comes back and recognizes her, but doesn’t tell Vincent, so he just thinks she’s strange and suspicious for being close to Ethan. Though as they keep meeting, Paula sometimes slips up, and Vincent slowly starts putting together the pieces about her when she goes back to the mansion. Though he doesn’t act on it until she finally reveals definite evidence of her being paula. It’s frustrating but I actually like this part of the novel the most.
Till the very end of story vincent ex fiance helps to find real paula till then fl sister taken that position ML have doubt and even tried to find out but failed continuously
