a really interesting reflection/allegory on the degradation of modern society (when i say modern i mean like 1800s onwards). his brother seemed perfectly normal in the beginning, totally unburdened by all the harm he caused and evil he did in his youth. his younger brother, kouhais etc. are left to carry it instead. gross but intriguing

actually in regards to the story, i'm not sure why people are surprised with this progression? imo it's not that dissimilar to taeui and ilay's, and people LOVE passion
I LOVE Passion but the way zhenya change in the novel IS WAAAAY TOO different from ilay i think that he Just soften with taeui
