Honest question. Why does the author think that only white people with blond hair live in America and the UK? I never usually expect manwha’s to have a lot of diversity, but when your only portrayal of a black person is a thug, and not any of the poor homeless people you saw (who are victims) or the bike riders (who are loved) then it’s just a bit iffy. Especially if we’re talking about manhattan where there are so much African Americans.
1: it’s a lot more common for people to think most people in amercia have blonde hair and blue eyes { from my acknowledgment at least } which is why the author seems to portray most of them so far as that, it could be due to lack of research of the author simply not wanting to show other characters just yet.
2: your second statement slightly confuses me, when you say “and not any of the poor homeless people you saw (who are victims)” like what do you mean by this?
3: { this is my personal opinion if you don’t agree that’s fine!! I’m also BPOC } normally I would be mad about the way they portrayed the first black character or at least side characters but I feel like in this case it’s different, like don’t get me wrong I’m not fond of it but at the same time the author isn’t simply portraying black people as thugs but also other races. On top of that the author is also pointing out countless problems with America that some people aren’t aware of { like drugs, gun violence etc }
Quick add on since I forgot I can’t edit this after sending it
I do hope however the author does add black characters to this arc, like ones who are somewhat going to be the main focus if that makes sense. I also hope that the author dose proper research when it comes to certain races.
so far the author has done a good job with portraying the good and bad sides of America, they’ve also done a good job at portraying certain disabilities and other things such as Albinism.
I mean that the author of manwha’s love to demonise black people, or people of a darker complexion whilst displaying races they favour in a positive light. Of course being homeless isn’t positive, but I’m not talking about the situation itself, I’m talking about the intended response from seeing all these homeless people. The first reaction would be pity, and feeling sorry for them. All these white homeless people on the street who are innocent victims. And then, we got the other side of the story, where the white people are displayed as pro-footballers, rich, high-class and wealthy. The whole spectrum for the portrayal of white people is showing them to the audience in a way that will never get a bad reaction, and put stereotypes into their head. But then we have other races, who aren’t shown on such spectrum and just given straight up THUG for a character role.
The male lead hasn’t actually done anything harmful to the female lead, as we can see. After reading other manwha’s like Try Begging, this black flag everyone is talking about seems stupid.
He didnt do anything? Who framed the father of the fl and put him in jail and let them sink into poverty for two years? It is him , he's like a snake putting traps so that he can manipulate the fl , no no no and hitting his family also a big yuck , he is somewhere between red and black flag
does she forgive him later on…? what the fuck now id understand if they happened to get framed by someone else and he’s helping in his own way yk? but he caused this ? AND makes it seem like he’s helping wtf????? i hope she doesn’t forgive him well she probably will but still
The full story is yet to be revealed. Until we see the flashbacks, everything you said is an assumption. Swear her father maliciously abused her in the middle of public, and yet he’s suddenly the victim???
My original point still stands. People clearly haven’t seen toxicity if this is what they deem the most toxic of the toxic. Wow he put her abusive father in jail, what a crime.
He is not abusive, he slapped her once yes and is always afraid if sthing happen to her but he loves her she is the only child thats why he is like that , but to manipulate someone so that she let go of her dignity to beg him to release her father by coaxing her to have s.x with him and not just a vanilla type a violent one , just to feed his ego , we are not comparing this story with the yaoi ones those are the epitome of toxicity, anyway , he is toxic manipulative liar framing innocent people to go to jail and the cherry on top hitting his family , he is toxic he is not a green flag
I think slapping someone is abuse, but okay. And she was not coerced. Stop infantilising someone who’s grown, she’s been a consenting participant the whole time. Although he may be a liar, and manipulative, he’s still not a black flag. Anyone would think he committed murder the way people gass up his toxicity, when he got rid of a trash father. As he should.
What’s manipulative was the female lead offering sexual services to begin with, in exchange for what SHE wanted. Now it’s a problem when he was sexual services, when she started this chain TO BEGIN WITH.
I probably think she's showing participation in order to bring her dad out of jail. By your words I am able to figure out that you are okay with his character and which might be normal (coz I am too~) but his level of toxicity is high. Well, u see he's obsessive, possessive, manipulative, also does guilty tripping and controls her behaviour. If that's not highly toxic then I have no words. Also, her father was not abusive, but overprotective. So I don't think what he did was entirely right. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I agree on that but don't u think timeline matters? She was young and for the first time met an interesting man (according to her) who caught her interest. She wasn't a cheap girl who was after money at that time. Remember she was rich? And so the better, she thought, would be to involve in sexual intercourse. But don't u think it's acceptable as she backed off after knowing what it really means? She didn't know the concept of it so it's okay for her to ask it once. If she would have done it twice, u might have blamed so. (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
My point is that everyone is being dramatic. Should we normalise this behaviour? No. But is he shown to be horrid at this time, and present? Not as much as everyone is saying. I simply can’t find it in me to care about an abuser. She may care for her dad enough to co operate but it doesn’t mean she also isn’t getting her pleasure out the situation. She used sex as a play from the beginning, so him using it back should not be an issue.
That’s all the more reason to not put all the blame on the male lead. If she offered sexual intercourse, being naive whilst the male lead was mature in the situation, his insistence on their relations, is simply because she’s inexperienced. There’s been no mention of forceful behaviour or rape so far, at the moment this seems entirely consensual. The male lead is so insistent of sexual relations because 1) it’s a corn manga 2) the female lead is shy.
I agree with u on that. But I think everyone's dramatic because they are afraid to meet a person like him irl ( ̄∇ ̄")
ML already had his eyes on her but waited for her to mature. U know that she was still in school at that time, right? I don't think the fl's shy. She's being controlled or in other sense blackmailed as of now. ( ̄へ ̄)
I would tell girls to steer wary of someone like him. But usually when a man is a black, not just red flag, I would expect abuse to be involved. I compared this to Try Begging, because that’s what I expected the male lead to be like, after seeing the horrible reviews for this story.
It's reasonable to find the ml of this manga not as terrifying as some other ml but black flag doesn't limit till physical abuse but emotionally as well. The fl was emotionally abused by the ml and considering so, emotional wounds take longer time to heal than physical ones. And the ml has a manipulating demeanor which is naturally sufficient to control her. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I feel as though emotional abuse isn’t as bad as physical abuse or rape. But that’s just me.
