Father, I don't Want this Marriage
The art sure is pretty, but the writing's sloppy...
At least 2 major plot points are wonky af.
- The first one is noticed at the very start of the story: MC clearly states that she used to live a life in SK (I think that she was a free-lancer), she even comes back to this very same statement when she says "I should've studied harder". But since chapter 1, very differently from other isekai MCs, in her thoughts, she adresses Juvel's past as her own, even saying "I remember when I did this or that", and in her thoughts, she calls the duke "father". This becomes worse after the duke says that he only turned back time, and when MC actually starts remembering events from "her" (Juvel's) past as a child (after her memories were whiped). There really was no reason to make this an isekai, they could've said that Juvel was the MC from the very start and went back in time and decided to change her ways. They try to cover this up with the quote of her mother "Live your life as if you were living inside a novel", so that the readers don't find it weird that MC said that the world was in a novel. This doesn't work since we get glimpses of her actual past life in South Korea as a free lancer.
- Another big problem that annoyed me was how Beatrice was the supposed heir because she hqd red eyes and red hair, but not only was her hair the exact color as her mother's, but the "red hair" of the dragon Fafnel was actually a scarlet red. If you didn't understand the stupidity: Beatrice is called the chosen child because of her red hair, but her red hair is inherited from her mother, thus having nothing to do with her powers.
- One more thing is that Juvel says that the original novel stopped after Juvel died. However, she afterwards states that Beatrice would become a great mage after awakening her powers. But in the novel Beatrice only awakened her powers after getting poisonned on the day Juvel died... so how can MC know that Trice would become a great mage and save the empire??? That wouldn't even be possible since Legis killed practically everyone on that day.
There were also some very minor plot holes, like how Legis states during Beatrice's coming of age ceremony of his first life that Juvel has already come of age, but in the actual story Juvel comes of age after Beatrice. There's also the fact that Legis gave a dagger to Juvel before taking her to prison, and this never gets explained even in the flashbacks, he just gives it to her and goes back.
The story itself isn't that bad, I guess it is kinda cute at times. But I just stopped when they made Juvel some kind of a goddess reincarnation mage or whatever. Juvel herself stated that Beatrice would become an incredible mage, but Fafnel basically said that Beatrice doesn't have anything special. Yeah no. That's just annoying. They HAD to make her have some inherited powers because otherwise she had no use in the story. Bad storymaking if you ask me.
Suddenly Became a Princess One Day
I don't really know what to think about the heavily open ending.
I guess it was to satisfy everyone, but I would have liked to see something more with Lucas maybe?? Idk I've been waiting for years I think we deserved some crumbs. Plus there is one part that was left unexplored. Athy dreamt about the country in ruins and flames, after discussion it was said that the dream was weird as the main villain wouldn't destroy the country he wanted to rule. It was then impyed that Lucas would have destroyed the country if Athy got hurt or died. But that part was left unexplored as Athy kept remembering that dream and wondering what it meant, and it was never directly explained, though it was implied that it might have been a consenquence of Athy failing to rescue Claude and Lucas going berserk??? Yeah idk
The story was good, kinda slow at times, some characters were flat out boring (yeah Ijekiel I'm talking about you), but it wasn't too bad though.
Props to Spoon because the character design is truly incredible. Athy's dresses were incredibly gorgeous
Salt Friend
Bruh wait no way this is too cute...
I really l'île the relationship between the two sets of brothers lol
I wanna see Yang Yang get along with his big brooooo
Mo Dao Zu Shi
I did not read the novel and didn't see the drama nor the anime.
I ought to say that the manhua's pretty badly written, most of the time. There is no introduction to the universe and I was completely lost and didn't know what was happening for, like, the first 100 chapters.
They did such a bad job at introducing the world of this manhua, how the powers work, how the sects work, nor what exacly the sects are. Plus the story itself was told in such a strage way with constant leapings through time with the flashbacks that not only was I lost as to whether the story took place in the present or the past (Wei Wuxian's old adult body and new body had a similar design, so it really wasn't easy to understand), but I also couldn't memorize what was happening even though I binged the whole story. Like when they were telling what happenend during Jin Ling's birthday party or whatever that was and then they suddently came back to the present without any transitions and I had to go back and read the chapters before the flashbacks cause I didn't remember a thing of what was happening. Also, weirdly enough Lan Zhan looked better in earlier chapters than in the last ones lol.
Now things that annoyed me that are probably also present in the novel: The Nie (little brother's) psycholology could have been explored more. He was so cowardly during the whole story and his brother didn't treat him in the best way, so what made him go as far as resurrecting Wei Wuxian just to hypothetically avenge his older brother?
Also talking about WWX, I didn't forgive him. He never had bad intentions but Lan Zhan, especially, warned him numerous times about how his technique was harmful and how there could come a time when he wouldn't be able to control it anymore. He didn't listen. He CHOSE to keep using it knowing the consequences and never really apologized. I feel like the authors wants the reader to believe that WWX did nothing wrong and that everyone else is wrong for accusing him and being mad at him, as if they were gaslighting him, when he clearly was in the wrong. By the way it wasn't really explained neither how HE himself lost control over his own body.
I also didn't understand what happened after WWX entered the temple for the final battle. I mean, wtf was that. Was big bro Lan there to attack the Jin scumbag, why didn’t he bring and troops? Same for Jiang Cheng, why was the freaking sect leader going to the "battlefield" alone?
Anyways. I still enjoyed the story. It had a lot of potential, with intersting plot points. It's like, I liked the individual little stories but having them all combined into one big mess was too much for me.
