. . . but there's something about this that brings me euphoria though I had to admit the toxicity level of the relationship is high at some point. Probably because of the anticipation of how the characters would grow and redeem themselves as the story nears its climax.

But the tragedy tag is like a reality check. He is not dead yet but he would eventually. My thought process is the gangster guy would die and the doctor would end up with his then-estranged friend. But my heart is telling me otherwise. If they manage to beat the numbers on their head and was able to stay alive after the numbers on top their head hit zero, then they beat destiny and everything would be reset and the person would be given another chance to live and instead die of old age or die naturally.
It might be unrelated but I just want to share my experience. If you are familiar with Border by Kazuma Kodaka. I decided to read all doujinshi of Border first and they were all good so I decided to read the main manga after. So if you decide to read Border I suggest you read the manga first. Better your heart broken first, at least the doujinshi would heal it. Just saying.
