It's more if a cultural thing I guess. In the US it's natural for everyone to like sweets (granted there may be certain things that they don't like like I have a friend who dislikes pie (girl) and I have a friend who dislikes cake (guy)). Apparently it's something that's viewed as slightly weird in Japan among the older generation (masculinity and all) however nowadays there isn't much prejudice against it
