ik its easy to get annoyed with Karlyle for never saying what he thibks but like!! Yall have seen his grandfather??? Lyle has been taught for so long that his thoughts dont matter, that its better to keep them to himself so as not to inconvenience others or make a situation more complicated. He's been made to feel like he has to temper and manage the reactions of those around him, so he tries to anticipate reactions and find explanation for behavior.
BUT HES TRYING. One thing i can really appreciate about Karlyle is that despite the way he was raised, he's honest. It can become so easy to start lying and just say what you know people want to hear. But, If you ask him a question, he will answer honestly even if it frustrates ot embarasses him.
Its Ash that pisses me off. He knows that Karlyle is a chronic overthinker and takes things at face value. Karlyle literally told him "i dont want to inconvenience you" and instead of explaining that he obviously does not want Lyle to move out... they just glossed over it when he initiated sex.
But, I suppose hes like... incapacitated now since hes very obviously in prerut or somthing... something he should very obviously communicate to Karlyle
RIGHT
It's frustrating meeeee. Before it was kind ok for them not to communicate as it as a relationship purely based on sex.
Bt what the hell!!! What is the prob NOW???
Just inform lyle my rut is coming closer. Is it that hard to say. It's not something that needs hiding. In omega verse alpha's rut and omega's heat is as normal as breathing.
When ash is clearly seeing it's making Lyle uncomfortable as he couldn't tell ash was in his prerut , instead of informing him, ash just told him to spend the night in his parent's house. Like how much of an idiot can u be , not having at least that much sense?????
i do not think any explanation or tragic backstory could make me like, or even just...be indifferent to this male lead.
like??? there was absolutely no reason to be so... vile and agressive??? to get what he wanted.
like at the crux of it, he's right; noah is very weak to him and unable to stand up for himself, LIKE HE WOULD HAVE WALKED INTO THE TRAP WILLINGLY IF HE JUST PLAYED HIS CARDS RIGHT.
if the ml wasnt so fixated on being this like, enigmatic mysterious, dangerous person and had just approached him like a normal person??? and been like... 'hey, i've suspected for a while you may have been the omega i spent my rut with... is that my son?'
like sure, noah would have been super skittish and denied and avoided it, but if the ml (idc to remember his name) had been persistent, and SWEET TO HIM and then come in with the final blow; "i can get you medication for our son with no side effects, just marry me." IT WOULD HAVE WORKED ON HIM??? HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT???? boom! pow! no r*pe!! no forcing of hands!!
and then we could have had a story about him making up for the way he treated noah in college, (because obviously he regrets it, he just has the emotional bandwith of a stale potato) and them falling in love and becoming a family.
...which is the story we are going to get, in a way... i'll just hate him the whole time! i'll stick around for noah and the baby boy tho<3
Booooring. See the issue with JUST having positive romantic representations in fiction is that it all gets samey, and let's face it sometimes we read about trash MLs because the domineering attitude is what keeps the pages turning, like "what new fresh hell is he cooking up this time?"
I'm kinda concerned that mangago users don't know what a 'Dark Romance' is, even if is filled with smut they expect everything to be sunshine and rainbows
I don't think it's mgg users
It's the really immature ones.
It takes awhile for them to understand that there is fluff and there is something in between. There is no black and white.
Yeah, it's becoming the new trend among bl readers (that's new gen for you, i guess)
Though enjoy both in equal measures, I sure do miss morally grey affectionate obsessive possessive seme
Must say, hunting for decent dark romance yaoi is getting harder these days
i don't disagree with you! i can definitely love some morally grey and evil love interests/main characters! for me tho, the absence of r*pe does not make a story boring!
like i said,.i think i would have liked to see this manipulative mastermind at work, if he would just stop forcing himself on the mc. like, /that/ is not interesting to me! trick and trap him! honey to catch flies and all that!
but i do acknowledge that its just fiction, its just a trope im not really fond of <3
i love a /good/ dark romance! heavy on the good!
a story does not have to be all sunshine and rainbows for me to enjoy it. ive read some really good dark romances, and very much enjoyed them! i just personally am not into the whole r*pe fantasy thing? not my thing. its okay if that appeals to you, or doesn't bother you, its just fiction! but asserting sexual dominace by sheer force and strength is not appealing to me, and not redeemable in a fictonal character!
i prefer a dark romance love interest that is cunning and manipulative, that uses wit to trap the object of their affection, not brute force. i personally prefer it when the mc doesn't even realise they've fallen for a trap and go willingly, and by the time they figure it out its too late!
im kinda concerned that mangago readers dont understand that people can have different opinions to their own <3
i love a morally grey, affectionate, obsessive and posessive love interest! i just dont like r*pe or assault between love interests! personally, not for me that's all <3
its a matter of preference, not a matter of understanding a whole genre~
love grey areas actually!
manipulation and coercion, stockholm syndrome are morally grey areas that i enjoy in a dark romance. r*pe and assault are not grey areas for me tho! its okay if they are for you! like what you like, its just fiction!
Actually, I'm the opposite of you. I can't handle Stockholm.
I cannot handle being locked up nor tortured. I cannot handle being chained or having parts broken off. That's not for me at all.
*body parts broken so they can't leave.
There is mental manipulation and there is physical restraints. Both are bad.
I also don't like *ape but I'll tolerate it.
This one here is like becoming some of stuff I've read before (novels) and they were DARK I tell you.
fair enough! im not really for bodily harm either, but stockholm syndrome doesn’t have to be like that! it can be about dependency and kinda being pavloved into associating the captor with essentials for survival like food and water, so they become "good"
but i get it! its not for everyone!
From what I remember, Stockholm is related to cases of people who have been kidnapped and have been physically harmed or threatened with bodily injury while being held captive. Because of this threat the victims start empathizing with their captors in order to survive. It is a physical capture.
It's not even food or water but threat of bodily harm.
that may have been the origin, but it is now just a theory to explain why captives form emotional bonds with thier captors; a pretty broad umbrella! it has a lot to do with the power imbalance!
so yes, a victim does not have to be harmed physically to develop stockholm syndrome.
from just skimming, im mot seeing anything aboit bodily harm actually? its all cognitive dissonance and dependency. even the original case it was named after, the hostages were not harmed physically; just held hostage and then defended the captors from the police when they arrived!
worth reading up on, its really interesting if you're into psychology!
I did look it up after talking with you. Yeah. Maybe new psychological evidence had popped up. Because when I had first learned about it (which had been years ago) it had to do w/ kidnapping.
And maybe the idea had been twisted into the car mics I've read today. I've only ever associated it with situations of being held hostage, rather than forms of manipulations as well. And that physical harm occurred. Maybe that's all theory that authors takes liberty with or I had misconstrued it's meaning. Either way, I don't like series having to do w/ rape in confinement.
Idk what the term to describe hostage/abductions/confinement/ and threats of bodily harm and or actual harm/ being chained up, or isolated physically so there is no way out.
*twisted into the comics/novels/stories
Plots in fiction that use rape as a vehicle to drive the development don't bother me if there's a legitimate cause. I have this sneaking suspicion that the ML here is pissed at the MC and is taking out that anger on him. Not healthy by any means, sure, but it makes sense. Also if this kind of plot isn't your cup of tea there's PLENTY of stuff out there that's different and less "twisted", so people who complain about the rape aspects of a plot are pretty annoying to come across given that they could literally be reading anything else.
