In a flashback we see Shavonne got a job as a prison guard 8 years ago. Then, in chapter 17 in one of Lewellyn's memories we see him talking to a guy in uniform and him thinking "Shavonne will come to love Lewellyn". So I think these two know each other from way back. Or not
