I think a lot of folks are being too harsh on Seonwoo. These kinds of behaviors can’t just be turned off, this is how he’s survived and even then he’s been living in a fight or flight mode his whole life. Even trying your best with the addition of a supportive partner can’t fix this. He needs professional mental health help in order to make sustainable transformative change

Expecting him to do that on his own given his history and lack of mental health tools and resources is not only ignorant, but downright cruel. Y’all need to understand that he grew up with NO ONE it’s literally always been him against the world and the people who he did let in betrayed him. That’s trauma you can’t just heal with willpower and a good social circle. He needs help. He deserves help. And I pray that Taesoo sees this and stays with him through all of this

For those of y’all hating on Seonwoo I urge you to reflect on this post and try to start showing compassion to Seonwoo, even if you don’t like him. EVERYONE deserves healing

I want to read to y’all the different things that Chang-il says/thinks before they have sex: “since when did it matter what I want, I’ve never wanted it [sex]” “my ass is still sore, but I feel like I have to pay him back somehow”

Yona: “I was trying so hard to behave myself, I don’t want to treat you like those creeps”

Yona understood that by making advances he was placing himself in that same bracket as the two men who raped him for months (obviously he’s MILES better but he’s admits himself that he’s in the same bracket) a more appropriate response would have looked like “believe me, I want to be with you too but after everything you’ve been through it’s more important than ever for me to support you without being intimate and reaffirm your worth to help you understand that your value is so much more than what you can offer sexually”

I very much recognize that Yona is young, most likely doesn’t have the maturity or experience challenging himself to reframe like this. But I stop giving him a pass because he HIMSELF recognized that if he had sex with him then and there, it would lump him into that same category with the others. Because of that, I think we have every right to call him out for that

Also, I’m not dumb, I kno this is a fictional story and that I don’t have to read toxic BLs if I don’t want to and by continuing to read it’s my own doing for consuming media that’s disturbing to me. BUT ALSO, that doesn’t mean that I suddenly dont have right to criticize these characters. Just wanted to put that out before yall jump down my throat with the same comebacks you throw at everyone who doesn’t just gleefully accept the toxicity of this manhwa with open arms

I feel so bad for Chang-il cuz he finally gets saved from the men who have been repeatedly raping him only to have Yona force himself on him. Is Yona better than the other 2? YES. But the fact that he doesn’t understand that Chang-il just went thru this horrific chapter in his life and needs a sex break so he can just human regularly again makes Yona only a couple steps better than the men he saved Chang-il from. Does it come from a place of malice? I don’t think so cuz Yona is still pretty much a kid and probably doesn’t understand the harm he’s doing by continuing to want to have sex with Chang-il, but that still doesn’t make what he’s doing to Chang-il any better

I’m very much Team Chang-il moves across the world, changes his identity, and lives alone and single for a few years while being in very intensive therapy and possible trauma recovery outpatient programs

I about had a HEART ATTACK when I saw the (The End) tag on this chapter ☠

Controversial take: YES the seme took out the whole uke’s family and that is horrible and horrific BUT ALSO he did that under government orders. I think a lot of yall are forgetting how intense these fuedal times and how defying orders like this could not only put you or job in danger, but most likely you family too

Does that excuse his actions? Absolutely not. Does the uke still have valid cause for wanting revenge? Absolutely. But at the end of the day it’s much of a systemic issue. I don’t think he would have maliciously taken out his family if he hadn’t been ordered to do that

So this manhwa can go either of two ways:

1) the uke finally understands everything that I expressed above, realized it is much of a systemic government level problem that even if he kills the seme, literally won’t change anything. Accepting this is the only way he’s going to be able to drop his revenge and start an actual relationship

2) he kills the seme, which you kno, GOOD FOR HER! This is your story, your life, you do what feels best for ya

Either outcomes are valid. I think we all need to just take a step back and look at this from a historical point of view in terms of power dynamics. This is really not a good vs evil, black & white type of problem. It’s much MUCH bigger than that and it’s doing the characters a disservice by boiling them down into cookie cutter caricatures
