Now I am even more eager for the next update!
Why oh why did I not learn to read Japanese!?!?

Errant Belle August 15, 2015 2:01 am

I seriously dream about this story and there is so much the author could do with it.
This is by far and a way my favorite story by this mangaka.

Errant Belle August 13, 2015 4:44 am

I would say anyone who really likes this needs to read more bara.
I would also suggest a smut tag be added because it is super pervy.
That being said, you can kind of see some glimmers of romance in it.
Like some of the other commenters, I'd be curious to see what happens if it evolves into a longer series.

Did anyone else think this manga had a deeply Japanese feel? More than most yaoi mangas?

For me, the focus on death and ghost was a lot like the themes I've seen in several Japanese films. In the beginning reading this made me nervous because a lot of those movies don't have happy endings.
I was so glad this story came to a more uplifting conclusion.

Anyone else absolutely love the page with Morinaga standing in his undies with his back to his senpai?
I want to make that my new desktop pic!
No wonder Souchi got all hot and bothered.

Errant Belle August 3, 2015 4:04 pm

Much love to the translators.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
But what a place to stop!

These last two chapters also really makes me want to visit Japan...

I'm not usually a fan of tattoos, but I want the one the older brother has.
Actually, I think I want a man with that exact tattoo, but either way, it is so flippin cool! If a guy was looking for a tattoo design, he could do worse than taking this manga with him to the nearest descent tattoo artist.

I read another version of this that was actually better just because of some subtle differences in the translation.

For example, when Tsuji comes back to Aizawa's demanding to be let in, the other version has him saying something like "Here's beer I bought with your let's not be friends money..." and it's so much funnier.

I'm not saying this translation is bad and I respect how very much hard work translators do to make these stories available to people like me.
This is simply one of the first times I noticed how much of an impact subtle differences between translations can make.

I read it on mangahere.co under the other name Sono Mama de.
I like mangago much better as a site, but the version of this particular manga on mangahere reads better to me.
It was uploaded by September Scanlations and in it Tsuji in particular has much more personality. Or maybe it's that his personality comes through more.

    Wow, that would be amazing!
Again, it's not that this version is poorly done. I don't want people to think I'm dissing the translator because I know how hard their work is.
It just doesn't have the little something extra that made the Sept. Scan one so much funnier.

Normally I would agree and say I like Mangago better but the redirects and popups are getting so frequent that it makes reading anything almost impossible. It takes 3 or 4 tries, or more, to read one page. Really annoying.

I had the same problem; the issue is with the ad network they use. It serves up ads that hijack the browser. I wrote to them about it, but no one ever responded. As much as I hate to deny Mangago their ad income, I started using an ad blocker and all the redirects stopped.

Not commenting on the site, only the translation.

Was replying to the Anon before me re: redirects. They would have driven me away to another site if I hadn't gotten an ad blocker to solve the problem (albeit clumsily).

I'm really relieved to realize that the version I read was the one with the better translation. Thank you to the hero who posted it!

I got to the chapters at the end and thought the artist must have died and been replaced. It's like it was written and drawn by a completely different person. Checking everything over it says the same mangaka drew everything, but is that even possible?

    rose July 25, 2015 3:46 pm

There was quite a few years between the official end of fake (vol. 7) and all the extras and sequels she did. And as with any artist, her art style evolved. Many aren't happy with the change, but i rather like her new art style. :D

I thought that might be part of it, but it changed SOOO MUCH!
Even for the evolution of the artist's style it seemed too different.
Don't really like or dislike the new style; although, the change is so big it's difficult to keep the characters straight unless you focus on their names and not their appearances.
    Thanks for the insight.

    ahaha died...probably

I WANT AN EVIL SNOWMAN December 9, 2015 2:53 am

If you want to see change in art style. Check out the mangaka Fujisaki Kou. Now that is a difference.

    K21796 January 21, 2016 8:03 am

I was confused too. I understand that the style changes over time, but this was too drastic for my tastes. The two styles are just too different. It feels like I'm reading a whole other manga. It's harder to recognize and distinguish between some characters, and they no longer look their age. It's a lot less realistic now... :(

I was following the weirdness OK until the part in the middle where the blind prince was getting raped by his father who was also pimping out his double to save the kingdom before the servant who secretly loves him comes to rescue him. Then suddenly up pops the demon because the kid wants to sell his soul for just one day of sight.
Forget about everything else, no one is going to sell their soul for one day of sight if they can just get their sight back, plus after that it just kind of stops.

    chenyu-chan July 24, 2015 10:44 pm

You are right, normally no one would sell their soul for only one day of sight, but this case is slightly different, I think. At first I was totally confused too, but at the end of chapter 7 it was pretty clear to me, as to why he only needed one day to see. So if you haven't read up till then, this might be a bit of a spoiler.

The prince's wish was expressed as his last wish. Since there was this dagger he always kept close to him, he was thinking about ending his life all along, I think. To see his beloved one and to know he was being held and caressed by him would be his last happy memory. Therefore he could die without regrets. But since it wasn't his last day yet, he couldn't see a thing.
As to why he didn't defend himself or try to run away, I guess that was because of his sense of duty and his desire to be of use to the kingdom, which only led him to be trapped even more by his psycho-father... ( ̄ε(# ̄)Σ

I hope that helped. If not, I was still glad to be able to rattle on about at least one part of the story I was not totally confused about. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

No need to worry about spoilers, I read all the chapters posted so far.
That part just seemed to stop abruptly with no closure.
I know he said he only needed one day of sight, but even that I thought was illogical since the demon was basically telling him "you could spend the rest of your life looking at your beloved doofus".
Then again, maybe you're right and he was planning to kill himself all along, so it didn't matter to him either way. Based on his father abusing him that makes sense.
Maybe the author isn't done with that part of the story and I just need to be patient.
I will say the way this is pieced together you really don't know where the story is going, how long it might be or when it might end.
Although confusing in parts, I suppose that's part of its charm. The manga is definitely unique.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts; I like hearing other people's take on stories like this.
