I understand why people would drop it. That's mostly because it can be super triggering and unless they know that it won't continue, they won't want to read it. This author made it feel especially real, and even I didn't feel great reading those parts, but not because they were badly written, because they envoked such horrible feelings that I felt sick. The author did a fantastic writing job and that's sort of the issue. I'm not saying they shouldn't have written it that way(god no, I loved it to death), but some people just can't handle those kinds of feelings and have to back out. Saying its "bad", however, because it tackled rape and how badly it hurts people, is an issue. This author did a great job, but I mean that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I saw some of those too, where they felt as if it was kind of out of the blue and should've been left out. It was an important part of the story. It showed how since a rumor spun out of control, those who are terrible come out of the shadows and reveal themselves. It was also an important part of character development since the uke had been dead set on blaming himself for everything and not telling his bf the truth. It opened a door for better communication. The whole reason terrible people show themselves is when they see someone they presume is an easy target. It wasn't out of the blue as some might think, it's just how people work. When they see an in, they'll take it. The professor thought that raping him wouldn't matter because he was already "selling" himself to an older guy. You can't just drop it and say it's bad from a writing stanpoint if you never even looked at how it influenced the story in the future. That's the issue I have with the people calling it bad after stopping at chapter 10. Sometimes people need to keep reading in order to develop a better understanding of a work.(Of course there are exceptions like if one of the mls raped the other and the story justified it-I def would stop reading at that point-).
Everyone else can go step on knife except for the black and pinkish hair dude. They're fine.
