compulsory heterosexuality, it's an interesting and very real thing. of course as of now (and probably the future) this is not canon for the character but i feel that there is some subtext that brought me to that conclusion

There's a common theme in many reincarnation series, and that is: Usefulness
Whether an MC is morally "good" or "bad", the affection of the other characters is dependent on one factor: how useful they are. This doesn't have to be for practical use, it can be for emotional/physical as well. And it's made clear when a character that was previously deemed useless does a 180 and starts to be proactive in their own lives, which makes everyone start to actually seek them out rather than the other way around.
While this is something I do enjoy to an extent, it sucks to imagine how this kind of situation would unfold in a real world scenario. In my mind at least, it implies that (assuming I was one of these 'changed' characters)
every meaningful relationship I would have is purely conditional on my use to them. That would make it feel transactional and I think I would be much more distrustful and wary of things going in my favor...
I think part of the appeal in this series is the MC's DGAF attitude (most of the time anyways, since we don't know
most of the old MC backstory yet) but I was just thinking about this at random. I like this series a decent amount and I hope it plays out well and is not rushed going forward :3

im not fully sure i get what you are saying so correct me if im interpreting wrong but, i think to certain extent this is just natural. when you put a word to it like transactional ofc its going to sound harsh. in reality if you are someone who is kind to others, bring a positive attitude to the table and generally try your best at your goals, of course people will want to be friends with you - just as youd want to be friends with someone like that (of course in a general sense we all are sloghtly diffrent). its not so much of transactional as like-meeting-like. viewing it in such a negative way will only make you over think things that arnt so deep really. MC wasnt just "not useful" he had a borderline abusive personality towards his friends. hed lash out or ignore them, he was involved with shady things, and yes though they could have done better, he actively took a step back himself all the time. thats a very tiring and frustrating person to be around/friends with. ultimately self care is really important. of course there are varying degrees to this and there are such things as transactional relationships but calling general relationships in life or in this mahwah as transactional is just detrimental to ur own mental health. thats why we have varying levels of friendships and relationships. in true friendships there will be times each person steps up to varying degrees to help one another, other times its more of an exchange. its not a bad thing - u both are just seaking out diffrent qualities in eachother, its up to you who you want at varying degrees of closeness. its how natural human relationships work- basically something fun to think about, but nothing to feel too sad about :))

i definitely agree with this, to clarify i was referring more to the other MCs of this troupe (other stories). i can't think of a specific title, but there are stories out there where the original MC wasn't a bad person. maybe they're actually a wonderful person, but they just don't have any 'special' qualities or skills (that can be useful for others) which lead them to be neglected by other characters but once the reincarnated MC shows a change in these categories, the treatment of them suddenly improves tenfold. hence the transactional relationship talk
I especially hate it when they are kids and they suddenly act a way the adults want them to act makes me upset considering they are the main cause on why their child is the way they are. It sucks they don’t get called out. LIKE those family ones and it’s the same when they are adults. Sure when you’re an adult you’re in charge of your actions but they shouldn’t act like they weren’t part of the reason they ended up that way in the first place? I wish an MC would call them out on it of course if they are the kind of character who would call out that behavior.
