Are you talking about canonly or fan works because i dont recall mlp having nsfw and gore unless the past few decades of episodes got *wild*.
I agree with you though, don't get me wrong. Though if it's the latter then it's just because it was unfortunately enjoyed by a......significantly large group of concerning people who happen to be creators.......
