Out of all the shounen protagonists in anime and manga, Luffy is the only static character while the rest are dynamic. It is interesting because a static character does not change while a dynamic character changes through the course of the story. Now, I am fully aware that he had subtly changed over the course but his ideals remained intact and true to his ambitions because after being chased by marines, life-threatening situations in every damn island they visited, and his brother's death, all these situations did not make him lose his momentum in his journey of becoming a pirate king. I think Oda did a great job in writing Luffy because static characters are hard to be invested in, unlike dynamic characters. Another great example of a static but well-loved character is Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED TALK.
GOD IT'S ME AGAIN.
