'Puppy' is just a nickname because he's a cute small dog. He's so small compared to a wolf he's even sometimes referred to as a 'one day old puppy' in the novel. :P But don't let the size fool you, he's one hell of a badass and a true fighter. For example, later on he briefly takes over as the Watcher, and beats up a bear who underestimated him, initially refusing to pay back a loan.

Yeah, that was so badass. :)

Sorry, but could you maybe tell me what 'white lotus' refers to? It just suddenly became so confusing in the comments here :D

it's an asian character trope, basically used to describe a weak and helpless personality (white lotus = pure) but also naive and stupid. like maythan rn, weak and useless. black lotus = two-faced hypocrite who appears pure on the surface but is scheming (like typical villainess character or the new prince character). green tea is something similar but they use smarter schemes.
