Tbh I get why Baal is so popular its hard to find a reliable man who is so good with kids and can also stop a arrow with his intangible shadow aura.
I like that they didnt make the lil sister a spoiled brat. She seems like just a lonely kid who is only superficially loved and paid attention to. I wish more series would make chill siblings especially sisters since a lot of them are just over the top evil caricatures.
Its a fun ride but tbh sometimes the writing feels like it was written by a teenager or something. like there are a lot of weird plot holes and the characters logic dosnt make a lot of sense. like how is charlotte possibly still obsessed with the duke? How come all the nobles are just ok with demon shit but also it somehow matters to not fight the emperor even though they have the super op arch mage on their side? Why even have a huge fight and publicly disclose the demonic involvement at a engagement party if the goal was just to have a chat? Idk i like the story but sometimes I just think the logic of the characters is really silly ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
how far up his own ass did he have to have his head buried that for TEN GODAMN YEARS he never once showed the tiniest amount of interest or concern for her that he wasnt able to learn this incredibly well known and highly publicized information? I just imagine him going to a social function and anytime someone says her name he just covers his ears and starts shrieking until they stop. Its the only way he couldnt have heard about this in 10 frickin years
Honestly its kind of crazy how divisive her character is in this comment section when you consider she has done literally 0 harm to anyone ever. Shes basically just an adorable sponge for abuse. And it has got me thinking why are characters like this so hated? In general I think people don't tend to like weak characters. Lots of series have these abused and sad protagonists and they get labeled boring, weak and useless and those series get dropped in droves. I think because from a narrative standpoint you are just stuck as an outsider watching this cute kid be traumatized and bullied over and over again and you just have to wait for someone to come save her. "Narratively" she is a bad heroine because she is a passive participant in her own story. She does not drive the narrative or make decisions or is capable of any heroic or interesting plans. So as the audience we are stuck next to her waiting for plot to happen off screen to move her to a new location or meet a new character. Along the way we don't really see any new facets of her personality or growth that could make up for the lack significance she has on the plot. All we see is that shes a cute abuse sponge and she has been one from chapter one and has not made much progress in over 30 chapters. When bullied at the table she said she'd be more upset but she has been treated well now so isnt as sad but again this is very passive behavior. She says nothing while still looking like a kicked puppy so the viewer is left frustrated for her and her lack of action.
As a function of what her character is we are only left satisfied when a different character helps her. It means that the only affection we have for her is from pity and not any achievement or trait of her own. It is the same empty feeling we have for OP characters who we are supposed to like because they get some great cheat and breeze through the story with inflated stats. Their personality is never developed because they have a crutch that carries them through the story. without an interesting character quirk or unique skill or development they are left as very boring trope characters.
The massive amounts of constant and repetitive abuse is being used to cover her lack of development. the more you feel bad for her the more you are supposed to like her. not because you learn more about her unique thoughts and dreams but because she is pitiable. The people who don't like the story see this as being a boring character because they are right. She is boring. I am not saying the story is terrible. I don't even think she is necessarily a bad character but as a "Lead" She is boring because of her inability to display a strong sense of character or action.
I don't hate the story I like all the mysteries that have been dropped about whose kid is she really? Does she really have holy powers? Why does the count abuse her so much what is their connection? But as a vehicle for the story to be delivered it feels like you are in a ditch with spinning wheels going nowhere while you wait for help to run down the road and push you out of the ditch. This is at least my hypothesis as to why she is so disliked by a lot of long time readers and comes off as bland. idk I find discussing her character and its flaws a lot more fun to read then the character itself but if people like her then all the power to you. Why did I write an essay for a manga character instead of my actual writing assignment who knows but if anyone reads this-thankyou and im sorry this is such a waste of time
Its like a mix of Shadow Queen and I Raised a Beast Too Well its not bad Id like to see more. I like the FL she is pretty sensible.
I feel like instead of making her a reincarnator they should have given her visions of the future instead. Not even the whole thing just flashes or dreams of what is going to happen. Like she is all happy and geared up to be adopted by the brown haired guy and then he touches her arm and boom weird vision that makes her super uncomfortable. he says something and boom another one. Suddenly consumed with anxiety she flees not fully understanding why but intuitively sensing danger. That way she is making choices as a child who is having these scary visions that feel very real instead of as a full grown ass adult who should be more mature and calculating.
I get isekai-ing and reincarnating are popular tropes and easy setups but I just think that simple tweak that she is really just a five year old seeing visions of the future and not knowing exactly how to avoid that future would make her character a lot more logical. It's not even that far away from what the plot is so Idk why so many authors constrict themselves with the same tired formula when just a small detail would make the character far more interesting and realistic.
Along the way maybe throw in some paranoia and doubt about what she is seeing but have her confirm the visions are true in little ways that force her to be more deductive. It would have added a layer of psychological drama and a mystery aspect that would make her character more interesting. There could have been this subtext of "is she just crazy?" "are these visions part of her divine power?" "do they always come true or can they be changed? It would be a better character aspect then being an adult who both acts and looks like a baby but isnt. The expectation that she should be wiser and more cunning because she has literally lived a full life as an adult before is what is causing the disconnect for the many people who don't like her character.
As it is though i think this is just written to jump on the bandwagon of fluffy daddy daughter cutesy stuff so I doubt the author thought much about how to add an interesting and deep twist to her character. Pretty sure the focus is just on how to make her look the most pitiful so when she is doted on later it is all the cuter.
I like the idea of it but I do wish she wasn't drawn as a delicate pretty girl with super long flowing hair. I mean at least tie it up or something and be a little muscular. Maybe Paulina has spoiled me for strong female characters but I just think she is not designed to match her personality or job.
Is it me or is the ML wildly inferior to the master? Like he is just a dick to her the majority of the time. Bothering her at working. cooperating with human traffickers. It was gross how he was feeling her up on the horse. I don't like him and I don't think the chemistry is nearly as good as with the master or green eyed boy. He seems to just see her as a challenge or a toy and they second MLs genuinely respect and like her.
I usually hate second MLs but I do think in this story it serves an interesting thematic purpose. Most revenge stories aren't written for happy fluffy romances. Charlize picked revenge and picked a very dangerous person to use for that revenge. She isn't doing this to make the country better or stop anyone from being turned into swords ever again she's just doing it because she is filled with hatred and anger. Thematically a toxic love works better for that kind of toxic mindset.
She could just drop everything now end up with Kahu get married and live a happy life away from her shitty family and the mess of the royal family. But she is ACTIVELY choosing to go a dark road and with that she's going to face consequences. Her rejecting Kahu sort of symbolizes rejecting happiness and moving on and instead choosing hatred and revenge. Kahu is kind he cares about her he never gave up on her and would have been her happy ending in her previous life. She knows this but she doesn't care. She is too twisted by her trauma and instead is committed to jumping into the fire and using the ML who she KNOWS is going to be a bloody tyrant. She KNOWS he will hurt people if he is in charge. She knows he will probably hurt innocent people too. She doesn't care about these consequences so falling into a toxic relationship is just another casualty of her pursuit of vengeance. Totally not a healthy relationship but it is what makes the story interesting and spicy also why this is fun as a story but should NEVER be idolized as a real life romantic ideal.
so based off my extensive knowledge of manhua cliches this is my prediction and only a prediction ive not read any spoilers-Glasses guy will be the snake who ends up as the ML. They met once at a party when they were younger and he liked watching her cry so he became intrigued and joined the game for funsies hoping to see her cry again. Through the course of the game he will fall in love with her scheming nature and end up forfeiting at the end.
The child hood friend is also a member and joined to protect her but she wont trust him again after that but he will forfeit and probably date the other best friend who has secretly loved him all along.
Blonde boy will eventually fall head over heels for her and feel dirty about the game telling her about it and what the prizes and circumstances are and then she will then crush him through blackmail and he will have his heart broken. these are my predictions.
Honestly Jeehan is acting like a manipulative asshole. He totally railroads anything she wants to do with his way. He totally refused to let her handle the matter with his brother in any way and stole her phone which was incredibly manipulative and immature. He had no right to forbid her from talking to her friend and explaining what was happening. He did that purely to spite his brother and probably irreparably damaged her friendship with him.
We keep seeing how hes "fixing fl" while he comes off as a perfect well put together guy but he has so many issues and he is totally unwilling to work on them himself even though he will humiliate her with a whistle or make her write a diary that he then reads keeping her from having any privacy. Tbh its very unhealthy.
I know he's supposed to be our ML and we should just forgive him because he's doing it for "love" but he basically treats her like a toddler and completely overpowers her in the relationship. He literally decides how everything will go with a detailed plan and blindsides her with it. She is a gentle pushover who is absolutely desperate for some affection so she goes along with whatever he says. Poor girl's self esteem and backbone are in shreds on the floor after all the shit he put her through and now he's still brow beating her into doing whatever he wants with their relationship.
So I thought she was the Saintess? Is she not going to get any cool powers or anything? It seems like she got kidnapped a lot so I dont think the original was very useful so I wonder what the point of a Saintess is. Id love if she got something to put her on the same level as Eith so when she finds out about his bullshit she can beat him up for lying before maybe rebuilding the relationship on more equal footing.
Honestly as much as her life sucked before its like way worse now. She lost everything she worked for all that burnout was made pointless. She lost her home, family, neighbors and all modern conveniences. She loses her own language too and is basically forced to start over while being told she's useless and disappointing. I'd be depressed af too.
so i love this story but damn if it isn't really hard to read right now. its just so sad and upsetting. I want revenge for them :( but i know they are going to die somehow and suffer even more. this is just too rough....where is the catharsis?
Oh my god i cant believe this is getting its own comic! I was reading it here https://perpetuallyperennial.wordpress.com/novels/pdem/ but it hasn't updated since september I hope this scan group keeps up with it!
