With the wonderful invention of the internet and Amazon, things that were unavailable beforehand are now available, even mangas from Japan and Korea. Being a woman of color, constantly seeing the words "nigger" and "negro" in this manga really hurts my heart and soul. In the future pls remember that there is more than one race in this world and more than one race that likes to read mangas and /or yaoi manga/manhwa.
I understand that hearing racial slurs can hurt. Being Chinese myself, to hear "Chink" get thrown around is upsetting. But I think it's useful to understand the context here. The author is not using slurs or racial hate in this series lightly, but rather to reflect the very real existence of racism and racial tension. Ultimately, the message of this series is very much that we should stop blindly hating others who are different crom us. So iI think she does a very good job of differentiating the (racist) characters' views and her own views.
I think the author had no way of knowing that their work would become popular enough to have an English translation and a wider audience; most webtoons will never be translated. Also not sure what words were used in the original and how those words were interpreted by the translator. So I'm not going to fault the author for this. But I understand exactly what you mean.
I fully agree with you, I don't think the author wanted to use these terms to be racist but rather to show us racism (I don't know If i am being clear), even because at the end all the characters who have used the n or other racial terminologies word all ended up being evil, and I don't think that anyone here (I hope) is stupid enough to think of them positively. The author wanted to shock us, showing us the cruelty of humans. But yeah i can understood why it can upset some people, its a really hard argument to write about :).
well I don't like seeing people hating on gays and people with different race.
but the thing that this author did in such a genius way is the fact that she/he show us how stupid it is. and people in reality do hate gay people. and they do bully other people with different color or race, and they do curse them like this.
and yet, despite all this, the author show how dumb hate is. and how pointless it is, and how there is people that do care even if it a little. even if they not "pure" with them caring, like the guy in one chapter said - those people care cause those people are "white" people. it in the same way insulting. and it soo brillent!
I can't really be offended cause it happen all the time, I seen it happen all the time and it sad! and make me really sad.
but the autor for sure not support hate or Discrimination. so I"m fine with the curse words. I seen worse in the real world XD
I disagree with your statement completely about not using certain terms in manga or other literature - even while I can hear and respect your feelings when you say that reading such terms can be painful for you personally.
This artist specifically developed this story to both spotlight racial and gender tensions, and to show that allowing things to stay unresolved but comfortable can lead to disaster - both on a small scale and a large one.
I hear that it makes you uncomfortable, and it should, but as long as it can be a reality we should remain aware of it - and stories like this are one way to do so
Because she was treated so poorly and bullied when she was younger, her mental state is severely damaged.
But we've seen several other peeps who went through similarly terrible childhoods where they were bullied by almost errone just bc of their looks. So I feel next to no sympathy of the saesang lady
Everyone mental state is different, some are not as strong as other. So they crack under the pressure, and that's why mental hospital exist.
True that
