The way I see it, REi always wanted to be Kazuha. Once K disappeared, REi learned to love himself and who he is. The last panel is him comparing himself to K and realizing he likes who he is better then the persona he once wanted to be.

So in short "hmm if I get beaten up is he gonna be actually worried about me"
