Oh I didnt want to spoil anything but the first scenes are litterally him being “revived”. So he mustve died in de past. Its nothing bad or traumatic and you really should start reading!
The entire story is basically being told in 2 different times. Wei wuxians life and then again when he has been revived. Its great!

not sure if this is true but I think he died because he absorbed the enegy of the amulet to destroy it. His body was destroyed horribly I think.
yeah he dies but to answer my original question, you never read about it. then he is revived as mo xuanyu so he comes back and has a great lil adventure again.
