Even in the novel that part seems rushed. All of a sudden prince remembered an important person who played a great role on Trudy and Tristan’s poisoning and decided to bring him to his side. While they were going there Khalid was making plans to raid the smuggler’s base which Baikal witch was working for then he metnand saved the prince. But I guess they skipped the part which Khalid was talking with his men about the raid
