Man, this story is just not sitting right with me. How did we go from MC literally throwing up and STABBING himself to get away from the emperor to being all cutesy and comfy around him??? In like 2 seconds??? His original self killed his child in front of the MC and then raped him next to the corpse. He didn't let him mourn his father's death. He mutilated his best friend and then let him die. He physically trapped him with him by breaking his bones. He ignored his feelings and boundaries about his body for 10 YEARS.
As a trauma survivor myself, this just does not feel like a natural progression a trauma victim would have, particularly with someone who looks exactly like their abuser, in the place that they were abused for years. It just really takes me out of the story that I was otherwise enjoying. Moreover, it is narratively unsatisfying to be robbed of that steady progression and trust building that I thought we were going to get.
And the people in the comments saying this can be dismissed or made better as a cultural difference....bruh....... like are y'all okay? i am kind of genuinely concerned tbh. Everyone is entitled to like what they like in a story but trying to justify the original emperor's actions in any way is mind boggling to me
Its literally so clear to him now that this emperor is extremely different than the one from his past and its thanks to how he taught jinha and made him into the more open, empathetic, and overall better emperor he is now.
Also yeodam is not all buddy buddy with the emperor. His main goal rn is to serve justice to the people who were kind to him in the past and then leave forever. And he is constantly reminded of the past emperor no matter how different this one is now, but hes also healing.
Also also, its a mfing BL manga with magical giants and mpreg, its not gonna be realistic.
Also, no one is justifying the past emperors actions. If they are, theyre a fucked up bitch, but majority of the people that are defending the present emperor are not one of those people. The shit that happened to yeodam was literally terrible and I even considered dropping it after the first chp cause it was so bad.
I think this manhwa is really triggering because of the subject matter and tonal shifts. On the one hand, I'm horrified by the comments saying that Yeo-dam should just "get over" the past and his PTSD. On the other hand, I'm not sure that I agree with comments that he has no PTSD, when there's clearly panels where he recalls a memory and is triggered and trying to get a grip. But is he recovering too quickly? Maybe.
Like you, I'm really troubled by all comments that seem to minimize all the horrors that the Old Timeline emperor inflicted on Yeo-dam. Regardless of the power differential between Jin and humans, it's obvious when someone is suffering due to being repeatedly raped, or having their ankles broken, their father or best friend dying in horrible ways or not being allowed to attend their loved one's funeral. I mean, Old Timeline emperor even killed his very own son! And even if the Old Timeline emperor secretly had a small place of regard in his heart for Yeo-dam by giving him good food or tailored clothes, the evils he inflicted on him cannot be whitewashed away. The Current Timeline emperor is different due to the positive influence from Yeo-dam and his family over 8 years, but it doesn't mean that the Old Timeline emperor's evil actions can be excused or justified in any way.
This. Exactly this. This quick acceptance without any rim or reason in what can only be described as in a unnatural way, is exactly why this story is pissing me off so strongly right now. It just took a huge nose drive into absurdity and stickiness. Thank you (!) for putting it into words so splendidly.

Suckiness, not stickiness. I can use weird words, autocorrect. You don’t rule me!
And one other thing is, that he had a lot of time to heal already, we just don't see it, because of time skips. I mean he had at least a decade, no? Since he was reborn as a child. And of course he is still traumatized, and I think it's normal how he reacted when he saw his abuser again out of the blue. The memories of the trauma flaring up. But after all those years of peace of mind, healing, surrounded by people you love, anyone would get better. I don't think it's strange he gives the emperor the second chance after seeing that the emperor is behaving like a different, better person.
The strange thing is to me that he finds the emperor still so attractive. Like c’mon, that's the face that traumatized you so bad, even if it's handsome you would get chills and not the drools when you see it. So I guess, I agree with the part that a bit slower progression from “stabbing myself in the chest from seeing you” to “im smiling and forgetting myself when you carry me” would have been better. And it is so unrealistic how he adores this palace despite it being the place where years of abuse took place.
But aside from these things I kinda like this story, it's a bit stupid (like most BLs) but so far it's getting cute.
Yeah, i also agree. I’m really sick and tired with all these typical “docile, forgiving, submissive” uke. Like the seme could literally get away with murder but then my child the uke has to suffer so much??!! Call me petty and I know the story is getting “cute” and all but I want the emperor to suffer as much as my baby once suffered. And how about the goddess that even sacrifice herself of being forgotten? (╬ ̄皿 ̄)
My mans better keep this energy. Cuz if we go back to psychotic Seungho that shit is going to HURT. Like....I do not think my my heart could take it. Might just have to defy the laws of the universe and go fight a cartoon character (︶︿︶) /

Yeo dam still has trauma but hes also not blind-
