so like yeah his mental age is pretty underdeveloped and he has a lot of trauma.

Hyoseop's parents die when he is young which makes it hard enough to navigate the world, but it gets even harder when he awakens at 14 as an S-class guide. He joins a guild that is one of the many guilds that participated in the original SS-Class dungeon. During the SS-Class dungeon the guild leader ends up exiting heavily injured and tries to force little Hyoseop to do a kind of intimate form of guiding. Hyoseop being young and confused he is too shaken with fear to guide the guild master which then leads him to die. (reason why Hyoseop only agrees to do guiding by holding hands.)

The guild master's brother is really angry at Hyoseop and believes him to be the reason why his brother died so he forces Hyoseop to be his designated guide. He becomes obsessed with Hyoseop and locks him in his apartment so he can become brainwashed with the lack of human interaction and devote himself to guiding him. He is also the one who gave Hyoseop that mark on his chest. (this is where he gets his fear of obsession) Eventually an esper coworker of the guild master's brother tries to help hyoseop and teaches him a lot.

Once the esper realizes the brother has no intention of letting Hyoseop go, he challenges him to a fight with the conditions: If the esper wins, hyoseop gets to be free; if the brother wins, Hyoseop has to stay with him. The brother ends up dying since hyoseop has finally woken up from his trance and refuses to guide him. But the esper also dies from his severe wounds. Hyoseop wasn't able to guide him and save his life because the mark on his chest.

This now leaves Hyoseop alone and blamed for the death of his abuser and the one person who helped him in a world of people who didnt care. Even though the rest of the world had gone through 5 whole years, he was still stuck in the past. In attempt to have a new start he moves to Korea and that is where the current story begins.

Hi, can you lmk if the older brother guide person grapes Heseop (as a minor or otherwise for five years?) before he dies from the wounds? Also the OG guildmaster also tried to grapes him as a minor (from reading the spoilers here)?? I was planning to read this but I don't think i can now thanks for spoiling this bc otherwise many would've been traumatized after starting it

oh sorry if it sounded like that but there is no grape dont worry. it is a good story and i recommend reading it. it was the 3rd ever romance novel ive read without dropping halfway through.
tho this is just the backstory. i dont understand dropping a story just because a character has trauma from sexual assault. it is a real thing that many many people go through and it sucks. (not saying thats what u were implying btw)

the novel just describes adults with bad intentions to highlight his bad environment since a big part of his past is him being taught that guides are only some sort of tool for guiding.

While Hyoseop was being kept in the apartment for 5 years it is pretty much him being left alone in that sad place until the guy came back for guiding then he would get fed the same boring meals. I cant remember the all of what happened but yeah he was just treated bad and fed all of this crap about how guides are supposed to be inferior to espers.

As for the og guild master if i remember correctly he just yelled at Hyoseop to guide him. Not that he would be able to him because of he was bleeding out with severe life threatening wounds. Hyoseop tried to do handheld guiding which would not be enough had he been a normal S-Class guide. Consequently the og guild master tried to tell him to do more, but Hyoseop couldn't do it since he was scared and just froze up which led to him dying.

This is not one of those weird things that glorify rape. rape and sexual harassment is a real problem and it is sad to see manhwas/novels using it as a fetish rather than it being something gross and traumatic.

if you cant read a mc with trauma then dont read it. a majority of the reason for the chasing arc is a result of his trauma.

Thanks for such a kind and thoughtful response!! Do u know if the type of guiding he does to the brother is sexual while being confined?

I went back to the novel to check for u @-@ there is never any scenes or depictions of sexual stuff in his backstory but in one sentence it is kind of implied that sexual abuse happened. and im pretty sure the only scene of mc guiding him is through holding hands.
Most of the confinement is not mentioned it just explains:

"From then on, Jin Hyoseop couldn’t go anywhere or meet anyone. His phone was confiscated, there was no TV, and he had no idea what was happening in the world. His only view was the sky. Over time, even that became familiar.

But four years later, Jin Hyoseop met an Esper who would change his life." (the esper in this sentence ends up saving him)

Most of the backstory takes place after this it is about how mc escaped.

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to write this u have no idea how much it means. Not just for me but for others as well, TWs can acc help ppl a lot more than ppl think, ppl with strong PTSD or trauma responses may fall back on destructive, self harming patterns if they are triggered by something that they see in a story.
