Chinese even more weirdo. In chinese culture, you can married your cousin as long the surname different but if you want marry someone who is not even your cousin or close family but have same surname with you its considered as taboo. This happen to my cousin they even already prepare for wedding but because the surname its not allowed.
Same surname means both of you bore same blood while different surname means you from different blood
So you can marry your cousin from mother side but cant marry your cousin from father side (because we use our father surname)
