I read this story in one sitting, and here’s my take. The ex-boyfriend made me feel so sad throughout the entire story. Not only was he in a relationship out of guilt, but he also had to give up on his true love because of that relationship. Imagine enduring five years of pain, only to find out he’s alive, and you need to get over him all over again—ahhh!
That said, I found the main character a bit hypocritical. He kept saying his ex abandoned him, even though five years had passed, but then he falls for someone else within a couple of months. Hmmm.
The only thing I wish this story had more of was a deeper development of the new relationship—more cute moments, more actions to show their love growing, and a few extra chapters focusing on their falling in love. It would’ve been nice to see more of their daily lives together, especially after all the misery they went through. I think we all deserved that happy ending!
Overall:
Story: 3.5/5
Characters: 4.2/5
Enjoyment: 3/5
Thanks for reading!
i kinda like the second couple more the first couple make me feel like am watching something illegal like why does the uke acts like a child
It's because of trauma. Imagine being held captive, never being taught about anything, and being treated like a sex slave. Although his physical age is 20, his mental age is still that of a 10-year-old. The terrible things he experienced caused his mind to stop developing, leaving him stuck at that age mentally.
In my observation, the uke was the first to initiate a romantic or sexual relationship, likely due to his early introduction to sex. This early exposure could have been a result of being a victim of sexual assault, which deeply impacted his understanding of intimacy. Having been taught, during his captivity, that his role was to provide pleasure, he may have come to see sex as the only way to cope with his trauma. This experience could explain why he was the one to take the first step in their relationship. On the other hand, the seme seems to have his own complex issues. Although I can't recall all the details from the early chapters, it appears that he might have had some form of attraction to a character named Judith. This possible attraction could have led him to initially project those feelings onto the uke, seeing something of Judith in him. However, as the story progressed, the seme’s feelings seem to have evolved from this initial projection into genuine love for the uke.
If there are any inaccuracies in my understanding, please correct me if i am wrong.
I'd like to fix this explanation a bit but let me clarify this first. Lou absolutely knows what sex is and is mature enough to give consent. Kenny kept rejecting Lou's advances in the beginning so he's not a predator. He only gave in after Lou properly explained he knows what he's asking for. Lou has actively rejected Kenny and Kenny immediately stops, so no worries. They are good.
As for why Lou still seems so young/illegal.... It's not so much that he has the mentality of a 10 year old, but more so that his mannerisms have been stunted. He also has a simpler, unfiltered way of expressing himself. As we get older, we're taught how to act for our age. We adapt our behavior and how we speak to the people around us. Lou wasn't taught this because of his isolation. Now that he's with Kenny, Raman, Yexing, and everyone else, he's slowly learning how to present himself as an adult. Take his clothes for example. Kenny had clothes made for him and Lou was hella happy to wear them simply because they were a gift from Kenny. But Lou slowly started to understand that as an adult, he should only wear long pants through his observations of all the adults around him. He then started asking for more mature looking clothes. Same with how he speaks. He can turn on a more mature voice and speak "properly" with adults, but he doesn't do that around Raman, Kenny, or Yexing. There's also everyone else's life standing compared to his. Kenny and Yexing are undercover body guards killing Raman's would-be assassins. They are all silently playing political chess, and have real-world things they are dealing with. Even Ishani has already studied abroad learning to be a doctor. Kiyan is working on becoming the head of Raman's home. All we've really seen of Lou is him bake a cake. He's barely started studying. That's the problem. Lou spent 10 yrs trying to survive Isaac's abuse after seeing his family and Judith murdered, so no one's in a rush to teach him how to present himself as the prim and proper adult that's expected. It's a different kind of isolation, but it is still isolation. That's why Ishani and Devon act the way they do. They see the bigger picture. Kenny is happy letting Lou ride horses, read, and bake cakes. It's safe. But that makes Lou's world only as big as Kenny's property. He cannot function by himself yet. He doesn't know how. That's why he seems so young. Like, how can someone who can't even say hello to a stranger or still get intimidated by children, have sex? I get it. But don't worry. He's an adult. He just doesn't have real world experiences (outside of his trauma). As he spends more time with Devon and Ishani, you'll see him mature. I think Ishani is going to have a huge impact on his development.
I mean, why would someone more mature be attracted to you when you clearly have the reading comprehension of a 2nd grader?
Devon explained it in recent chapters that Lou is perfectly capable of acting his age. The only reason why he still acts the way he does is 'cause he thinks that's how he'll keep Kinard's affections. That and Shahid is bad about treating anyone younger than him like a toddler so Lou just kinda stayed that way even after being rescued.
To clarify what some other nimrod said; Kinard was never in love romantically with Judith. Judith and Devon were an item and Kinard was more like a cover-up for them. Kinard was still a virgin and actually lost his virginity to Lou after they reunited. And if we're gonna clarify all their relationships; Lou has held a special place in Kinard's heart since the firs time they met. Initially it was that of wanting to protect something small and precious, but after they reunited their feelings changed into genuine love.
The only hang-up Kinard ever had about relationships was just that he had never actually been in one 'cause in his heart finding and saving Lou and protecting Shahid from assassins were the only things that mattered to him.
Does that dumb it down enough for you?? Should I get the crayons out to draw a character web for you??
