I don’t think a story has ever made me this intensely disturbed?? The ending genuinely raised the hairs at the back of my neck. I sat and thought about it for a long time afterwards. I’ve read almost all of this authors works, but this is their most terrifying work for me. This authors art is absolutely stunning: they use these delicate and detailed fine lines and they know how to make subtle facial expressions that can be exceptionally unnerving. ALL their stories are very, VERY... well, fucked up. Still, this is the story that’s stuck with me for the longest. I get the chills just THINKING about it... If you’re into psychological horror or want to read something that’ll make you feel sick from the pit of your stomach, this is the work for you. I would highly recommend, but be warned: it is NOT for the faint of heart.
I feel strangely hollow after finishing this story, but I still found it... strangely beautiful?? I’m unsure how to describe it... I genuinely felt my heart ache at times. Managed to be deeply unnerving without being particularly graphic or explicit. I was genuinely enthralled by the story and the ending had such a sad, almost melancholic tone to it. I’m not sure if I completely understood some of the story beats, but I would definitely recommend either way.
I’m definitely gonna be thinking about this one for a while... the psychological elements were genuinely intriguing and gave me the chills. You can tell this story was intended to be an exploration of a toxic codependent relationship of sorts... really fascinating and chilling. The pretty art somehow makes the whole thing feel even more sinister. Sometimes fucked up elements in ‘yaoi’ stories are just used for shock value or as a dark fetish of sorts, but I definitely came away from this story feeling like the author’s intentions where to explore a disturbing relationship rather to fetishise it in some way... Definitely made me sit and think after I finished. The scene where he slaps him twice with a totally blank face and the last few pages in particular gave me actual chills. Very unnerving reading experience, would highly recommend for anyone looking for the same!!
Managed to make me feel this intense sensation of creeping dread as I read the story,,, VERY chilling and cleverly written. The art was absolutely gorgeous. Managed to make a very deep impression in a short amount of time. It was unnerving without being grotesque. The last panel especially gave me goosebumps. Definitely recommend.
Both stories were quite odd but I still liked them! The first was a little unnerving but the soft ending surprised me! (I personally thought the part where Cliff offered to tattoo Ross’s face onto his chest, implying ROSS was his ‘new god’, was very chilling - but I’m glad their story didn’t end tragically. The second story was totally bizarre but I found it really charming. The reveal for what ACTUALLY happened was strange but made the ending satisfying and sweet.
Of the two, I liked the second story best - while I thought the first was actually very interesting and had a lot of subdued subtlety, I was more pleased with the second story’s strange little romance. What an odd little read this was. Still, I was endeared!
UGHHHH I honestly CANT with this author- I love their art and all their stories are soo sweet. THIS IS LITERALLY LIKE A TATOO ARTIST X FLOWER SHOP OWNER AU FANFIC!!! ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!!
Edit: I’ve read quite a bit of never understand but I don’t remember meeting these characters,,, and then I find out the seme assaulted the mc??? Uuuh big yikes... I guess your enjoyment of the story is gonna be based on your perspective of the characters... I thought it was v/ sweet buuuut I guess that’s cause I read it out of context... oof
