the auction thingy is common in the past, don't be surprised about that
I mean the 2nd prince did come there to stop the auction if I remember correctly, so it's illegal even in the story. Also it's not a really uncommon thing in le ancient times. Even during modern day era there's still a lot of pedophiles, that's why there's market for lolis and child porn. It is disturbing, but too much fluff and happy times can make the story quite bland.
