I am going to talk about this from the perspective of someone with DID. While not %100 accurate I am pleasantly surprised by the knowledge and research done. I would like to emthisise the importance of communication between alters. Also on the matter of switches. While they can happen quickly like in the manga ( and they are tiring and make your head hurt) they can also be a very slow process. The speed of a switch depends on the situation, Is this alter dissociated? are we in danger? and at times who the alters ( who is currently fronting and who is switching out) are and the communication levels between them. Feel free to ask questions!
I have a question: Is the concept of your alters speaking to each other about situations going on around them a real thing that happens (and possibly discussing who should "take the lead")? Also if that is how does that feel like to you, as the host? (im not super familiar with DID but this manga has me interested sorry if anything i asked sounds a bit ignorant)

Yup, That does actually happen! There is what is known as an inner-world and this varies from system-to-system. It is essentially where you go when you arn't fronting. Some parts of the inner-world may be blocked to certain alters to protect them from, for example, hidden trauma. for example our inner-world has a large house on a hill with some woods and a few side houses, and I even as the host can't go in one room. Funny enough we do have a table like in the manga that we meet sometimes. The best way i have heard explained is in a car, theres someone in the drivers seat who is fronting and there can be a person ( or people) in the passenger seat to take the wheel and they can also see through the windshield ( what is going on in the "real world") People in the backseat would still be able to see or take the wheel, it is just harder because they arn't towards the front. I experience various forms of levels of communication between alters and it changes for others. I was born in the body but an alter cal was host for a few years before we both were hosts and then eventually me. I am fairly certain he was my first altar and I have the best communication with him. Then there is almost no communication abilities between me and an alter named axel, even in the inner-world. - A note on Cal. Cal's roll in the system is the gatekeeper, he keeps track of alters and has the best inner and outer world communications, He keeps track of who has what memories and holds what trauma and can decide to give an alter a trauma memory to cope with if he feels that alter can deal with it. He is also the one who can decide who can go where in the innerworld. we all have rolls. I as the host am a trans man, so when I find myself unable to take care of myself in regards to showering ( due to dysphoria) our female alter takes care of it. I also am recovering from an eating dissorder so there is an alter who will take over if we aren't eating properly by midday.
Wow that is so fascinating. I find it interesting how complex the system within your mind is. I always used to think that the alters within people with DID were just invasive to the life of the host but over the years I ahve found that that is not the case, especially in yours where your alters are actually helping you cope with your body dysphoria and eating disorders. Also I wanted to know in your case specifically... actually do you wanna talk privately? (its not that bad i just want to insure tht ur comfortable lol)

Thank you so much for clarification Jace. I would like to ask something if you dont mind. How does each alter decide on their names? Imurluck
I really am not sure how they choose their names, sometimes when I first meet them and they first split off they have a name but sometimes they do not. A terrible thing was said by my ex in school one day and a new child alter was formed and did not have a name. my friend chose the name gismo from gremlens and it stuck.

Thank you for the clarification, Jace! I wasn't sure how accurate this manga was but now I have a better understanding. Thank you!
