Haesoo quitting smoking as seen in this chapter where he tosses his pack of cigarettes is very symbolic!!
Here’s a really great thread I found on the meaning of his smoking habit, and how its connected with his relationship to Joowon: https://twitter.com/joohaes/status/1340598549944287232?s=21
I agree with the general idea of smoking as a proxy for an unhealthy but addictive relationship, and I also thought he was throwing a pack of cigs away to represent a new start. But if you go back and compare the cigs, either Haesoo’s (red on top) or Joowon’s (pink band) it doesn’t match. I think he’s tossing that infamous lighter, which is all blue. Still a fresh start, getting rid of the detritus of yesterday, with a more satisfying ka- klang sound. (I’m pretty sure author likes us to examine all these juicy little details.)
Yeah, Taku’s lighter, the one that pained Joowon to find on the floor of his car when HxT were making out. I saw a comment on here at some point that it was the lighter, so I looked back at the 3 things, and it would appear to actually be the lighter. Which surprised me, but then I thought back to when this chapter dropped there was still a little suspense as to whom he’d end up with, if anyone.
For some reason, I thought he didn’t take it back as another way he could ingratiate himself to H, but I don’t think that actually happened. It is strange, though, for a soft pack of cigs to make that CLANG sound. It could be intentionally vague to drive speculation at the time chapter was released? Anyhow, I definitely felt anxious for Joowon at this stage of the story.
HAESOO N JOOWON CUDDLING AND KISSING IN THE NEW CHAPTER I CANT.
And omg the fan translations of the raws today made me smile nonstop. Joowon is so adorable and so in love with Haesoo pls T.T And the way he's smiling and laughing in the chapter!! HE IS SO CUTE PLS.
Seeing the flashbacks of the convo between him and his dad, and how much his dad messed with him was so heartbreaking ;_; so glad he can finally be happy with Haesoo now. Joowon just deserves everything. bestest boy <3
honestly when i see joowon hate in the comments at this point in the story it just makes me scratch my head. like...??? this man been self-reflecting for nearly 40 chapters, and then got into a car crash i-
I swear there are more moments of Joowon in pain (physically, mentally, etc), through these 97 chapters, more than any other character :'D I mean he...
-took a slap from haesoo's mom, just to take the heat off of haesoo
-almost got suspended and lost his acting debut for haesoo
-got yelled at by his dad after the high school fight
-abandoned by haesoo after divorce— this wasn’t haesoo’s choice but it still hurt jw
-was neglected by his dad ever since his mom died
-has the public's eyes and pressure constantly on him (it said in the story that he would literally run to haesoo for support when things got too much for him)
-told by haesoo that he never wants to see him again... when jw literally has no one else there for him except his manager lmao
-constantly chasing haesoo, calling him, telling him he misses him— only to be ignored or lied to // haesoo really believed JW was not genuine in his feelings or just wanted to hook up,, while joowon said stuff like how he just wanted to cuddle HS while sleeping pls lol
-when haesoo blames joowon/their relationship for the losses in his life + punches him T.T that part really hurt damn
-got crucified by the public and had his huge acting gig dropped just to protect haesoo
-injured his hand pretty badly with glass when taku started saying manipulative shit to him about feeling “loss"
-almost d worded in a car accident
-his whole depressing monologue: “Romance is fleeting. Reality endures. Happiness seems imaginary while sadness knows no bounds. That’s why I wanted us to stay young forever.”
-second depressing monologue: “I didn’t want to ruin things, and I was lonely. So when I felt suffocated I’d run to Haesoo."
-another depressing jw monologue: “I was too young to know that reality is different from a screenplay. No happy endings, no perfect situations."
Also... honestly I do love Haesoo in his own right, and I KNOW he had his reasons for doing some of the things he did to joowon in the story. even if they were wrong~ like umm: emotionally manipulating jw to make him jealous and angry. or you know: saying he wants joowon to suffer. multiple times. but i can't recall a real situation where joowon intentionally hurts haesoo. he was literally trying to protect him and protect their relationship, and made some mistakes along the way. he let his immaturity/arrogance blind him to notice those mistakes. As a joowonist, it hurt to see him get hurt over and over, but I am glad he had well written and BELIEVABLE character growth ╥﹏╥
Yes! All the scorn heaped on Joowon makes me love him even more fiercely, because it’s so misplaced. I try to be as open-minded as possible when interpreting fiction, but this story is really not that complicated. I can only surmise that one of two things accounts for it:
1.) many aren’t reading it, or have only read selectively from the start, or are following along like zombies on social media; and / or
2.) joowon is yaoi’s whipping boy. He’s taking all of the punishment for every abuse or slight committed by every “seme”. “Don’t fall for me” or Haesoo’s mixed feelings about a bj, or just simple arrogance, are magnified and sweepingly castigated unlike any other character. The story plainly shows that Joowon sacrificed so much, recognized his mistakes and changed, and unconditionally loves Haesoo. He wants Haesoo to be happy, even if it’s not with him- and it’s still not enough?
Vanishingly few “semes” could meet these standards!
EXACTLY!!! Literally, if I had to pick out some of the most misunderstood characters in BL, he would be up there. The car scene between them is always misunderstood too. Anyway, he did so much for Haesoo's sake, even let him go ffs, and somehow part of the audience is so deadset on villainizing him because they dont properly read and just want to treat their manipulative fav as the "saviour" character. Yep. Joowon is in fact one of my all time fav semes in BL, and rightfully so.
yeah!! that's literally exactly what i've been saying :D understanding joowon's point of view and the difficult situation he was in, i did in fact sympathize with him. he had legitimate reasons for his actions and did what he thought was right. he went through a lot in the story!
unlike another certain character in this story who just did things cause he was "curious" and had fun playing around with ppl ( ̄△ ̄)
Idk why some of yall open Love or Hate and expect nonsense fluff, or porn with a semi-coherent plot. Like no: this story is not your average BL with little to no depth or direction. The ppl that read the story and all they get out of it is “tHe cHarCateRs aRe tOxIc” and then get angry, dont really seem to be thinking while reading. So if you want to shut off your brain when reading ig, then Love of Hate isnt for you.
The characters presented in loh are very carefully layered. From their background to their careers. Their actions throughout the story in hindsight are honestly similar to regular ass humans (except taku at the start was kinda described to have sociopathic tendencies but whtv lol): they all exhibit selfish qualities, they show a degree of immaturity or possessiveness, or manipulation. In reality thats how ppl are. They arent downright monsters, and they arent saints. When faced with their feelings or trapped in complicated and difficult situations (like joowon and haesoo’s step sibling past), characters tend to make mistakes and act irrationally. Just like regular people do.
So yeah dont bother reading LOH if you dont want genuinely flawed characters with some ugly qualities and bad decision making that reflect real ppl.
Srsly, some of these people read LoH in a black or white way. They don’t seem to think about the gray areas within the story as if they haven’t been tOxIc to the people they’ve loved before. I feel like you have to have a sense or level of emotional understanding to read this story (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
P.S Not part of the topic but hello fellow co-carat, Wonwoo’s also one of my biases lol haha
Definitely, I mean if they aren’t into angsty stories, analyzing characters, and just want a lighthearted one well they might as well just drop instead of leaving hate about the authors. LoH isn’t your typical happy-go-lucky romance which is why it isn’t for everyone╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
You got it right, it is Jeonghan
ppl calling joowon "manipulative" makes me laugh. especially when actually he genuinely loved haesoo from the start and did what he thought was best for their relationship without getting their parents involved and to protect haesoo. theres no basis to say hes manipulative once you stop viewing the story through haesoo's unreliable narration, and understand joowon's thoughts and perspective. joowon did things usually with good intent and made genuine mistakes that he actually regretted and apologized for-- none of which were "toying with haesoo" LOL. as if this man didn't love the same boy for 10 whole years even after being abandoned twice by haesoo + would rather lose his career just to protect him huh
and i swear some of yall say this without any real examples or evidence, but just to defend another man in this story who was actually genuinely manipulative. especially since he decide to start his relationship with haesoo out of mere self-interest and planned to toss him aside as he's done with many of his past models.
Honestly I've always been team Haesoo's happiness, even if it meant Haesoo being single without Joowon. But does it ever strike you just how much Taku is anti-haesoo's happiness. Like this man wants Haesoo to be miserable so bad? And for what???
He has a whole monologue where he's like "I saw you were sad, and it felt good." and it's about how he likes when Haesoo has to depend on him for comfort, so haesoo's misery makes himself feel good and depended on. blehhh.
Then theres the "it must be painful for him no doubt, but I just wanted to see more" after he makes haesoo recall "never being able to see the person he loves again" RIGHT AFTER HIS BREAKUP WITH JOOWON. all for a photoshoot. The photos made Haesoo cry at the exhibition! And you say you wanted to see more??
Or when he says "if i cant beat Joowon one on one, at least I want you to feel bad". Like bitch?? So Haesoo is some sort of competition to you, and you want him upset even tho you wanted this relationship knowing he's in love with Joowon for 10 years?
Or "I hoped that guilt would bring you to me" when he talks about his plan with using his sex tape to guilt trip haesoo into a relationship. He's just listing down every negative emotion in the book for haesoo to feel for him at this point.
And now in the raws: "I hope youre unhappy, and regret breaking up with me". THIS MF?!? you literally just said haesoo tried his best in this relationship and you dont blame him. And then you go say this shit! Even if you were thinking that, keep that crap to yourself?? why does haesoo deserve to hear that if he tried his best to like you, huh? Literally all Taku thinks about is himself, istg (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸 ppl just see his supposedly "kind" actions while ignoring all this sort of horrible thought process ugh
Anyway I'm just glad Joohae endgame. Cause Haesoo's happiness = Joowon.
And when we see Joowon developing the most, and actually fully supporting Haesoo happiness agenda. Like that time he called Haesoo and told him he'd always be on Haesoo's side as a brother or friend, even AFTER Haesoo left him for Taku. Like Joowon literally wants Haesoo to be happy, even if its with another man??? That's actual love.
Or the way Joowon ran into Haesoo in his company building and told him, "no hard feelings, congrats on your exhibition". Joowon later says he actually felt hurt when he said those things. But he held his words and simply told Haesoo it was okay + did not try to guilt trip him.
Anyway Joowon a whole king. If he wasnt such a massive haesoo simp, I'd want him for myself.
all those examples i used were actually compiled in gardenfairy's post so no credit to me lol: http://www.mangago.zone/home/mangatopic/9517513/
i just kept thinking about this post and i realized what all the examples had in common: it was that taku just liked to feed off of haesoo's sadness. it just pissed me off eye
102 RAWS
JOOWON'S BODY IS SO (⊙…⊙ ) LIKE DAMN
The colour grading for joohae's sexc times are so on point. The hues are so warm, and pink, and it just looks so intimate. You can clearly see the difference in the colours between this and haesoo's sex scenes with taku. Anyway, everything is soft, and their cute banter!!! i love how haesoo said he felt awkward at first, because it had been so long for them... and then there was a line that it felt like their "first time" which is so adorable im gonna cry huhuhu. and the way they dont stop BLUSHING abksdkdsk
GHIRLLLLLL THAT ASS THOOOOO UGHDFJVGDHNSJVGRJHNTJ
LMAO HE'S PACKED
First time as lovers lol skskdhfjfkdksksk
