I’m actually quite happy to see the ‘fantasy rape’ trope coming back in recent years. It was big in the 90’s early 00’s. All these tropes ebb and flow, but fantasy rape has always been big in yaoi/BL. Why? Because fantasy rape is statistically the #1 female fantasy! Whether you like it or not, on average, we love this shit! We love the bad boy turns good because we can change him. Our fiction reflects that. This isn’t bad or even toxic. It’s a *fantasy*. Historically, and even modern day, women love this dynamic. Because it’s not real. We, the women, control the rape in these scenarios. That’s why it’s also called a ‘controlled rape’ fantasy. I loved it in the 90s (when it wasn’t taboo, but totally normal in yaoi AND het romance novels) and I love it now. No shame in loving this trope! It’s a normal trope!
